  1. 3M 8518 Laminate causing greenish color shift

As I posted in ibpalms other thread, there are additives in all laminate, some more than others, that help block UV light and extend the life of the pigments. It has a slight yellow cast like shooting glasses to block UV. In my experience, 3M appears to have more of this than most other...
  2. 3M 8518 Laminate causing greenish color shift

Just some facts as I know them. Optically clear is more of a reference to the adhesive than the laminate. You will notice that all media considered optically clear comes on a plastic liner. The fogginess that you see when you laminate with non-optically clear laminate comes form the texture of...
  3. Suggestions Looking for a........................................

You get grooves in self healing matts when your employees are heavy handed, rarely change their blades or use box cutters. My first shop we flipped them once in 8 years. Use x-acto knives and fresh blades to weed cut and mask. The way you hold an x-acto knife is more precise and you typically...
  4. Need Help Blemishes in Prints

It looked like a pinch roller to me as well. Could be contaminated media, try different media. I'm sure QC was the first to go with CoVID, it was with the recession.
  5. copyright question

Just call it a stripe kit on your line item and move on. We used to do these all the time for stripers that installed kits on the dealer's lot.
  6. Dry Erase Laminate

Side note: We used to sell a few 18x24 aluminum real estate signs with dry erase to neighborhoods and they always complained that they were difficult to clean and didn't work well. One finally brought a sign in and they had scrubbed it hard with unknown cleaners and ruined the dry-erase...
  7. WTF (What the Frosting)

Because they won't let you on-site to compare materials you will have to quote them a range based on the different materials. 3M will cost you 3 times more than MACTac and the MACTac is easier to install. You can't eat that cost difference. If they are adamant and have to have a firm quote, base...
  8. what would you do??

Time is money, I would upgrade one computer every couple of years. If a new computer only saves you a minute here and a minute there 10 times a day, it will easily pay for itself in a year, even considering the pain of reinstalling the software and configuring it.
  9. Need Help Project board

We used to have a wall with those plastic file holders and put vinyl on them. Each job was in a plastic jacket. If I remember right, we had one for Waiting for Approval, Router, Printer, Cutter, Outsourcing, Handwork, Installation, Invoice, Ready for Pick-up. Once a job was approved, working...
  10. Hi! Stymied on this!

    No luck here
  11. WTF (What the Frosting)

That might be a layer on both sides of the glass. It always looks brighter on the side you view. Either way, it is probably a double layer. In my mind, it will be easier to install and look better with a layer on each side. You won't have to wait for it to fully adhere before you install the...
  12. Cash N Carry vs Install

Just a warning for those that use vector vehicle templates. Most templets used to leave off the huge Dodge truck door emblems that were in the graphic area. If you don't have a picture of the actual vehicle, it is a good idea to do a quick image search for the Make, Model, and Year for a visual...

  14. Rant I've frickin' had it.............................................

Some other things to consider; a bad stick of RAM can do things like this, if you're doing something complex a low-powered or bad power supply can create voltage fluctuations and cause problems, not enough memory, or scratch disc space, and as I have said before, delete your temp files...
  15. Need Help static in print need help

We had the same problem with our magenta head and banner material in winter. The first foot or two looked good and then the magenta head would spew in everywhere. We didn't print a lot of banners, so we would put water in a spray bottle and spray the floor of the shop to raise the humidity...
  16. Question Alternative to Flexi for Windows

Also, when you have repeatable errors in a program, it's good to close it down, delete all the temp files, and restart the program. Your program will continue to see a corrupt temp file unless you delete it. Close your program. In the Search programs and files type %temp% and delete all the...
  17. Cash N Carry vs Install

If it's just the vehicles that need to be measured Notarealsignguy, your right. I would just want a quick picture of each to confirm make, model, cab design. Then use Mr. Clipart for the templates and design with reasonable negative space. Heck, if they are just the doors I would just design one...
  18. Question Sign Design Revisions

First of all, I don't design anymore but used to be 50% of my job for 20 years and I got a reminder recently. I was at a friend's shop and he had a husband and wife come in for design revision. I got reminded, never ever design with 2 people around especially a husband and wife. It was brutal...
  19. Cash N Carry vs Install

Back on topic. Stacey, my conversation would go something like this "I would be happy to come out and measure those for you. I will be a few days before my schedule frees up, and there would be a "blank" fee for the travel and survey. If you or one of your employees are good with a tape measure...
  20. Laser cutting vinyl?

All the major brands have adopted a non-PVC version of their print material; 3M IJ480c then ORAJET 3981, Avery MPI 1405. You might research them. P.S. all companies use the same vinyl facestock because of patent rights.
