  1. eco solvent or water based ink for canvas ?

after messing with UV, eco-solvent, and water based, my conclusion was that latex was the best all around set up for the broadest client/price range. the color and image prints more artistically then eco solvent and it is more durable and cheaper to run vs water based. i was assuming that...
  2. eco solvent or water based ink for canvas ?

depends on the client. who are you selling to and at what price point. also is this going to be high traffic spaces (hospital) or low (residential)?
  3. Stained glass

you can do it with a flat bed. i did this project and was really amped about it. it took forrrreeeevvvver..... i charged $150 a square foot and still lost money. https://www.flickr.com/photos/alldredge/14921239617/in/set-72157647099270181
  4. Need FB Printer to print 50-75 sq ft/hr with white ink and photo quality on.

this flatbed printer costs $28,000 and this CMYKW using Ricoh. i believe meitu tech is the original designer and is licensing the build to maybe five or six other builders. dual dx5 costs $16,500.
  5. Probably the youngest Kid in the Industry

getting started really young can screw with your perspective. i went pro at 12, now that i'm almost 47, i look at my 15 year old daughter and think "shouldn't you have already started your own business by now?".... of course she's an academic genius so she's got better things to do. and her...
  6. Rastek H700 wiper station up/down motor issue

having an odd issue with the cleaning tray on my printer rising and lowering. 1. have changed out the "wiper control board" with a spare that i had. same behavior remains. 2. when i manually turn the gear so that it raises and then do a cleaning cycle, the bottom gear on the motor bumps a...
  7. flatbed printer cell phone cases?

maybe for applying the stops on your jig using some kind of silicone would be a better option. this would allow for minor adjustments to get the stops right on the line before the glue sets up. as far as the general method, the printer will always set the target. using cnc/laser is way more...
  8. "Last Chance Filters" For CET UV Printer -- Pall Acro?

there may or may not be "true" sensitivity to the the last chance filter. i've used assorted filters and seen no performance difference. one side of the printer that has no effect on performance is the pre-secondary tank side. you can get line filters and pumps for $5 a piece. along with...
  9. New Epson S30 drops ink

the ink in the cart is like a pile of chain at the top of the roof. the ink coming down the lines is this same chain hanging off of a roof. this chain and the gravity on the chain (actually surface tension inside the ink tube) pulls the ink all the way to the head. if the cart gets low this...

in my parntership, my salary was $90k (in texas too) and for the first time ever (i'm 46) i paid actual middle class non self employed taxes. it came to $22k for that year plus about $5k in gas commuting to work. no longer could i deduct my house, electricity, car, gas, paper towels!, trips...
  12. At a crossroads looking for some advice

it's pretty obvious that you don't want to do the energy job. when the energy job is mentioned it comes with comments that have to do with feeling obligated (use the education, keep the wife happy, etc) and when mentioning the job you seem a bit more "into it". one thing i find odd about...
  13. At a crossroads looking for some advice

if you are making a living at either then that's the beginning at end of the money discussion. the question is how do you feel. literally "feel" doing each job, which really are two completely different lives. are you happy and enjoying running the printers and keeping up with clients...
  14. I've got a love/hate relationship with my Mimaki UJf-6042. Help me love her again?

i just found all these quicktime tutorials about how to use white ink in rasterlink if anyone is interested.
  15. Do you have any diagnosis for this?

to make sure the "damper swap" is done right. confirm that you are not changing out dampers by unhooking them. you need to cross the lines so that perhaps the cyan dampers+lines are plugged into the magenta manifold nipples and the cyan is vice versa plugged to the magenta manifold/channel...
  16. Do you have any diagnosis for this?

same difference. universal cap vs isolated caps as with dx4
  17. Do you have any diagnosis for this?

well, "following the head" can mean following the manifold nipple (cracked possibly) or the manifold prefilter. dx5 heads don't give away as much info in that they have a universal cap. you can always shut everything down and pull a vacuum at the cap/waste line and listen for a vacuum hiss...
  18. Do you have any diagnosis for this?

start by swapping the magenta damper+line to a different channel and print some big blocks of 100% CMYK see if the issue follows the damper+line or remains at the magenta manifold nipple/channel.
