Is it not too complicated to put a serial card in? I've looked at a couple of videos on youtube and it doesn't seem too difficult...I'm assuming I need to get the right one for my particular motherboard. I really appreciate your input on this. You guys have been so helpful.

Are you running a 4b plotter? I need this plotter to cut heavy sandblast mask for sign foam signs.

Its my understanding I can't run anything newer than 98 for the 4b to work.

I had my Gerber 4b and Graphtec plotters both running perfectly with Flexi8. After having a new motherboard installed, now there is no serial port on the back of my pc to plug the 4b into. Do I just get a usb to serial cable (USB to RS232)? Could it be that simple? Will it mess up my port...

Follow up: Make sure the 4b is on the right port and nothing else is on that port. Problem solved.

I Took the blade, still in its holder, out of the machine for transporting. Carefully moved everything to my new shop. Put the blade still in its holder with the blue knob on top, back in the holder on the plotter like it was, tightened it down carefully and now...its not cutting deep enough...

One thing only on com 1 Got it figured out. I had the other plotter also on com1 so I switched that to usb and now the 4b is plotting perfectly all by itself on com 1. I guess this means...you can only have one thing on a port at a time. Hope this helps someone else.

Thanks for the suggestion, Snydo. I wondered what tileing was and now I know. But, mine is not cutting right. Its cutting half letters, letters missed totally, a random diagonal or horizontal line cut through letters, ...its got something set wrong. Damned if I can figure where or what...

After my computer crashed, I had it repaired and I am setting up flexi 8.6 to communicate to my signmaker 4b...again, since I went through this a few years ago...and my 4b has gone nuts. Its just cutting random letters out of a layout and not the whole thing. I had this same problem before...

Ah, great! That makes sense. I was noticing the current blade is not very deep. I'm using Anchor #116 stencil that has the punched clear plastic edges for the 4B. For the friction feed plotter would I want non-punched...I've never seen it...does it have mask right to the edge? You guys have...

J. Hill, what do you mean: "copy/paste what is being cut so that each piece cuts twice one after the other (so it doesnt have to go all the way back to origin and recut)" ? I'm not following this. Is it cutting twice on the same line?

Anybody know if you can cut sand blast mask with this plotter...24"? Can you increase the down force on the ROLLERS? Mine cuts vinyl great but I'm wondering about the mask. I know you have to use a sharper angle blade for mask. I've been cutting mask for years on my old 4b and it is reliable...
