  1. Subbing out some design work?

Is your graphic designer not keeping up? Or do you not have a dedicated one, and you are looking to relieve people wearing multiple hats (which, perhaps is you)?
  2. Calling out size- height 1st, length 2nd?

Haha - yes, I use left/right and up/down a lot too, any more. Width and length are pretty much useless nomenclatures.
  3. Question What is a good company to outsource custom ADA sign?

The applique is cut separately, then premasked and applied to the backer. There has been much debate about the beveled edges, it does not seem to be a clear requirement.
  4. Question What is a good company to outsource custom ADA sign?

We have a Vision 16x24 engraver/router. It is a great little machine. We are hoping to upgrade to a laser for cutting the applique. That part can get a little slow with the Vision if you are trying to output dozens of signs per day.
  5. Suggestions Source for Rustic wood frame kit

Since you do wraps, get a plain kit from Signcomp, Howard Industries or wherever, and apply your own faux woodgrain wrap. For real wood, a local woodworking company would be a good place to work with.
  6. Question What is a good company to outsource custom ADA sign?

Signs of Our Times in California was a great resource before we got our own equipment. FYI - gloss acrylic and serif lettering are NOT ADA compliant.
  7. Adding "stucco" to ACM?

If you use Matthews paints, the Suede additive gives a gritty finish. Not nearly as textured as Stucco, but it is a very durable solution for painting aluminum.
  8. WTB Summa F1612

Global Garage is a good source for used equipment. Let your Summa dealer know you are looking - they may know someone looking to upgrade.
  9. Typical safety codes for large interior acrylic displays with stand-offs?

3/16" acrylic is very thin for that large of a size - I would recommend thicker to eliminate waviness
  10. Striping Vendors? (Gregory Alternative)

Do you not have a vinyl cutter?
  11. Price check... real estate sign

If this is really for a realtor, I think that is quite high. We don't serve that market any more, but I would estimate $400-450 is a max.
  12. "Here, try this one."

Haha, that's because most sign guys are broke. What is much worse, is when this happens by taking cc info over the phone.....then you have to call the customer back, etc. We eliminated that problem by integrating Authorize.net with Shopvox. Eliminated most walk-in cc payments. Now if a...
  13. Banner Lamination

Any other lacquer or clear coat could damage your print. It would need to be water-based, but even that is not a guarantee if it is just something from a local paint store. Clearshield matte, as mentioned earlier, is a good product to use.
  14. IL DOT signs

Anyone have experience making highway signs for the Illinois DOT? These will be business logo signs for exit ramps. Their guidelines state this for digital print signs: "Design submittals for digitally printed signs must also include a valid certification letter from the sign sheeting...
  15. Nifty Tip - Save some $$ on patterns

We have Gemini ship on our UPS account - it costs way less that way. They tole me they implemented the shipping policy because many people complained about "unknown" shipping costs.
  16. Discussion How do you handle this type of deal?

I agree with this. I have never understood the appeal of bartering. What if you barter with a pizza place and their food sucks, or they go out of business? Or a lawn guy and he does a hack job? Now you are stuck with them. It's not free stuff when I am investing my time into what they get...
  17. Wholesale Awnings

    Illuminated Image, Z3 Graphics
  18. Question for people who bid a lot of spec 10 signs.

Someone has to be answering questions, that's usually where the addendums come from. How do you find out who the other bidding contractors are?
  19. New HP Latex 700 and 800 series - with White ink

The 300 series made some significant improvements with both color consistency and length. It is not perfect, but much better. I would hope with the lessened heat of the 700/800 series (plus being a couple strides ahead of the 300 series printers) that these should improve even more.
  20. Chromatic Clear Flattening Paste

Yes, it works good. If you want a really matte finish, you have to put a lot of paste in which makes it not cover as well. Just takes more coats.
