  1. Question for people who bid a lot of spec 10 signs.

It is safest to email a question to the bidder. Contractors will try their hardest to weasel out of paying any more than your bid. For all you know, clarification could have been buried in an addendum or on some other random page of the plans.
  2. Max Acrylic flat face size you would use in flat face pole sign.

I know what a hanging strip is, but what are bumpers?
  3. Onyx sending data to printer speed

We have operated a number of different large format digital printers through Onyx over the last 20 years. Sending data to our Canon/Oce flatbed was always a million times slower than any other machine.
  4. WIND LOAD CALCULATION FOR CHANNEL LETTERS

Don't you need an engineer drawing to determine this? Sullaway or YJ should be able to figure it out.
  5. Need Help Need 14 blank Plastic/Acrylic Office Door Blank

Johnson Plastics or JDS Industries (I believe) will cut blanks like this. PVC is OK, but a little chintzy looking. We usually use Gemini Duets ADA or Rosemark ADA Alternative.
  6. News on any new HP latex printer?

The only other machine in this price range with real white ink is the Mimaki UCJV printer. In our shop, this would replace 2 machines, so it seems reasonably priced to me. I'm excited
  7. Percent of Jobs by sales price

I agree with this. I don't have a problem with smaller orders, but often those small orders can be very demanding, especially non-commercial work. We have a reasonable minimum order to weed out the non-serious candidates. In the past, we have had many customers that we did smaller vinyl work...
  8. Question colors and print jobs

I would recommend you change the Lab color and RGB color to the EXACT same color. Little differences like that can interpret slightly differently and not match side-by-side. We had something silly like this come up just this last week.....and we had to reprint the job.
  9. increase in aluminum?

I've had vastly different pricing from 2 different suppliers. One was over double what I paid about 4 months ago, the other one was maybe 5% or so more. The supplier that was over double more had called and warned me about a week before that pricing was going way up. He said it was because of...
  10. We are adding subcontractors

I heartily agree with this. Other sign companies are often the worst customers - extremely demanding, poor communication and slow to pay. One project we did for a large national company had channel lettering that needed wiring work done inside the wall. Contractors were going to close up the...
  11. Need Help Translucent Vinyl Turning Black

Calendared laminate does that. Use cast this time. However, 7 to 8 years is pretty good life for any digital print.
  12. Channel letter faces.

Most wholesalers want to plow through work quickly with their CNC's. This requires hand cutting, which really slows them down, so it's going to be more expensive.
  13. JFX200-2513_Ink Scratching

We have never used adhesion promoter on our machine (LUS-150 inks), and the ink adheres incredibly well. Maybe there is some kind of coating, try cleaning the blanks with degreaser or ISO alcohol.
  14. Alternatives to backlit panel?

You could do 1/8" aluminum with an epoxied support bar across the back, but I don't think you are saving much over polycarbonate. I would propose polycarb with non-backlit digital print vinyl graphics on it. Then the sign won't yellow, since it is all covered with a vinyl print, and you save a...
  15. Reliable small LED lighting provider

I am looking for some small strip LED lighting, to make a sign similar to this. Who is a good, reliable supplier for this? I am not looking for cheap. I feel like I am swimming in the ocean by Google searching. TIA
  16. Need Help Dry Erease laminate wrinkles over time

I'm not familiar with the 111 laminate, but we had that problem a number of years ago using the real thin cheap looking dry erase laminates. Since switching to Avery anti graffiti, we have never had a problem. It is quite a bit more expensive though.
  17. Bidding on Projects

It depends how bad you want the job. I know a lot of people like to hold their cards close to the vest until they get a deposit. With this kind of project, you are probably going to have to stick your neck out a little to get the job. Meaning mock up and samples. It's a risk, but could pay off...
  18. Flatbed cutter - Drag knife vs kiss cut tool

We just got installed a Multicam Apex 3R, and it has knife cutting capabilities as well. We are comfortable with the router aspect of this machine, but knife cutting is new to us. We have a Graphtec plotter, but this machine is quite a bit different. I notice this machine (like the Summa...
  19. White on transparant for small labels

I don't understand why reselling is not an option. If you cannot resell and make a little money, you will never make money printing them yourself. If you think S365 and others are charging too much, you are not charging enough.
  20. Epson launches first latex: SC-R5000

I love our Epson S40. I am curious how this machine plays out. If it is basically the same but has instant dry ink, I am sold. We have a pair of Latex 360's, the lack of color consistency makes me nervous. Our S40 has never wandered.
