I think your problem is not the printhead or the encoder strip.
It looks to me as if you have an encoder disk issue.
I am not up to speed with the 1204 but on my 1604 looking at the printer from the front, on the left hand side their is a panel.
Once removed you will see the encoder disk (Clear...
I have used Signlab for a long time so I am familiar with its workings.
I have recently bought a small 3d printer to play with.
Is their any way Signlab can create simple files that I can print?
Maybe like embossed company logos or raised emblems?
Thanks

When the head was replaced did you replace the head cable with a new OEM one?
These fuses protect the board and as said are usually caused by ink splatter short circuiting.
On very rare occasions the main board can be damaged.

I have never come across a "subtank high" error before.
But I can only assume that one of the subtank 2 way valves has failed and is constantly filling the subtank from the cartridge.
I have a 1604 and have replaced these twice on my machine.

I use 651 as our standard vinyl and it should be well up to that job.
If its print probably use a cast.
But my biggest issue is that customers expectations are completely ridiculous.
I had a client in last week complaining that their vehicle graphics have not stood up that well, On checking...
Also the spring plates that hold the reader can loose their tension and need removed and bent back to shape.
I have had to replace the same one twice on my 1604 last week and even then on the last attempt the spring plate had dropped in wrong.
I still reckon it is something to do with the chip...
I have an ongoing issue with coming in on a morning and I have a Sub Tank error showing.
When I reset the machine the issue has resolved itself.
Personally without going to deep into the machine I suspect that the sub tanks have a sensor which either contacts or triggers this error.
Is their any...
I had a reply back from my printer supplier....
" The VJ1604X uses a newer version of the Epson DX5 Print-Head please note that within a ‘DX5’ group of print-heads there are many different versions developed for many different manufacturers/models etc s I believe it is different to the DX5...
I am now on my 8th replacement of one of the chip readers on our Mutoh 1604.
Absolute rubbish design which has took me off line for 5 hours this morning!!!!
Sadly it mangles the chip reader pins and has failed on original cartridges and when using bulk inks.
It's lucky I have had this issue...
I think it will probably be due to the date on the machine.
If I remember you can reset the date by removing the bios battery on the main board.
You have to remove the firewire card before you can access this.
This question has been asked before, I would advise a search through previous posts.

I am more than happy with the 1604.
I would want to run this on bulk inks as I do with my 1604 as OEM inks are overpriced and in my experience no better.

I have had an email from one of my sellers saying that Mutoh have launched the 1604X (which is a good price).
I currently have an original 1604.
What are the differences between the two machines or is Mutoh just trying to sell something old as new?
Also do these have both the same Epson DX5...
The big issue is the man (or woman) of the street looking for a 20 foot off cut!!!
In our business their is no such thing as an off cut, everything can be made into a sign or graphic.
I basically mark up any pieces of vinyl 500% if they want it that badly they can pay for it.
I manufactured a pole sign for an Indian Restaurant and on the day of installation the owner insisted he wanted a 10 year guarantee on the sign and electrics.
I had to get a lawyer involved to make them understand that such a long guarantee of an item was not possible.
It took nearly a year for...
How old is the head as they last no more than 4-5 years no matter how much they have been used?
Also the first thing I would be doing is change out the complete maintenance station.
