  4. Wrap shop without own printer/laminator. Where to print?

+1 And early in the process you need to get familiar with output colors vs display colors which means lots of color proofs. If they're close its easier and cheaper to make sure the colors are right. Nothing like designing an awesome red and grey wrap and getting an orange red, or a green grey...
  5. Need some out of the box thinking on vinyl cutting/application

My first thought is why don't you just install the vinyl then hand trim, but I'm guessing you have a lot of these to do and are looking to streamline the process and eliminate mistakes. I would try print, cut, then mask with clear and install. The clear mask will stabilize the center of the...
  6. VHB Tape

I prefer the RP45 with the paper liner. So much easier to get off as compared to the red plastic liner. The thicker foam conforms better to rough or irregular surfaces. I always use an adhesive like PowerGrab or Lexel to backup the tape. Without it the signs will slowly slide down the wall...

  8. ISA or SGIA

ISA seems to have a lot of LED and video and SGIA has Garment. Other than that there is a lot of crossover. Most of the important vendors go to both shows. I would go to which ever is more convenient or mini vacation destination (they're usually on the opposite sides of the country in a given...

  10. SP 540i Value

Age and condition would be big factors in value. I think you'll find, if you have the space, that it's worth more as a backup than the value someone else is willing to pay. You can print on one cut on the other, use it while waiting for repairs, and print smaller jobs when you have a big job...
  11. Window Perf on Store Front

Oversize the prints by 2". By that, I mean 1" on all sides. Peel 6" on top and tack the perf 1" on the top mullion and centered. Then peel the whole thing and center side to side on the bottom. Sometime you have to adjust the top to get the graphic to look like glass. Once positioned cut the...

General formulations has a textured lexan laminate in 3 thicknesses that works well. Think I got in from fellers ages ago.
  15. Running Thin Styrene Through A Roland Ecosol Printer?

A long time ago I used to run small 2' x 2' or 2' x 4' sheets through a Roland sp540. You have to slow everything down because you can't use any heat and head strikes are a real issue. I also used a high pass count so it laid less ink per pass and had more time to dry. We found that if you...
  16. Versacamm printing crooked...scared to ask...

Definitely Encoder Strip issue. Easiest is to clean it with a soft non-abrasive cloth and blow off the sensor with compressed air. Chances are it will need to be flipped though. Make sure you do the environmental set up thingy when your done.

  19. Trouble getting good solid color when printing on clear for lit faces

Just know that most double-struck prints look dark (oversaturated) during the day but really nice at night. The old school method was to print on clear and install it on the plex, then, using a light table install a translucent print over the top. Both layers of ink come into play when lit but...
  20. Application tape Help!

So let me get this straight, you get the customer to weed, mask and install the stencil? I guess I don't understand why you can't weed and mask it. All the mask I have seen doesn't come with a liner.
