Im assuming that's why your predecessor is a predecessor...these printers sip ink...no reason to stock if you have a good relationship with a reseller...maybe there is a new firmware but I have never seen an hp not take an expired ink
any pics? what is the date on the media? it does have a shelf life. I have a 360 and 560....Id look at environment first(is it near an ac, is it in a warehouse? what are your heater setting? if the media is old latex is prone to poor image quality from plasticizer migration...can look like...
Just took delivery a month ago on a demo R1000. I can run 80% of my work(typical signage, wood, pvc, foam board, corrugated) at 300dpi in a 3 pass mode. The product is evolving...latest firmware just opened up sandwich mode or color white color/ color white black white color

Yes..head rank needs to be correctly input or the head may not work properly...Heads can be used for different printers..the head rank configures it to your printer...
You may not find sign EZ..what you may want to look into is Onyx Gama Print Pro..it's their basic version...or
find someone selling an older version of rip software...the HP8000 is old...you can use any version of Onyx 7.0 and up...
the rip may end up having more value than the printer..
