Hi Jason Yeah I had a demo the other day. It seems to print well on anything at their quality gloss mode - about 40 m2 hr. Matte is slower.

That RRP is from the Mimaki Aus site so I'm sure you'd get one for less. They have LUS200 as an option. How much are 1650s in the States?

I don't have the space or patience for 4 slow printers. The UJV500-160 is $140k AUD ($95kUS) RRP + delivery and installation.

It looks like a comparable Mimaki is 40% more expensive than a 1650. Looking at speed. Length and colour consistency. ROI naturally.

The samples I have show the ink to be bulletproof. Far better than latex. Iso, thinners and acetone have no effect.

I'd probably be cranky too if I'd bought a 1640.

Care to share your experience with this printer? I'm curious about: Media compatibility. User friendliness. Actual sellable print speeds gloss and matte. Double sided operation.

You can see why they don't want users turning off cleaning cycles. The heads are covered by warranty so they don't want to be giving away heads because of poor maintenance.

Too much ink is probably masking any banding. You can try reducing ink levels in Job Editor and see if the banding returns. If so it might be you need to clean the heads.

If your printer hasn't paid for itself in 3 years there's something wrong with your pricing. Any extra life after that is cream. New printers are better anyway.

So do we but 100% on the underlayer too. Colour looks great with the lights on or off.

Change the heads?

We have a Zund G3 - Oce ProCut version. It's a very productive machine that will cut any of those materials quickly and easily. Print, scan the barcode and cut. You can train new staff to do simple operations on it in about 15 minutes. The router auto bit changer is amazing.

Caldera constantly crashes and wastes thousands in media and they rob you but Onyx is rubbish. Good to know.

We just use 10 pass for most stuff because that won't band unless you have a head on the way out. That's not very fast.

Doesn't even need to be optically clear - we've used polymeric laminate and it works great.

Weird. Ours works quite well using Onyx and Summa barcode server. Sometimes we have trouble getting the communication established but once running we can easily cut a full roll without intervention.

We had a Splash running a Xerox 1250! It was a lame duck compared to what we have now but that G3 sure looked pretty in the shop.
