  2. Just finished this sign today

Well, I don't think you are an idiot... I can only assume that you are overworked, understaffed, doing too much of the work. See, If I had a full service sign shop with little or no help and I: Got up ass up in the morning, and opened up the shop Made contact with the client Survey the...
  3. Just finished this sign today

And I would tend to agree with you except that when you zoom in...the distortion would be consistent, but here, the distortion is only there on letterforms with a hole in them. And that LOAVES AND FISHES are rendered fine. Believe me, it's a common mistake. For a short while, I product trained...
  4. Just finished this sign today

Too bad, you can still learn something... like... I just noticed, look at the "O,D, - especially the P, A and R" where it say "FOOD PANTRY" the router cut the outside of the letters fine, but the inside of the letter are not offset to take into account the bit width. I don't know what routing...
  5. Just finished this sign today

If I saw this image, I would be giving it a huge thumbs up and a "good on ya" And stated: "Excellent dimensional re-creation of an existing logo placed on a wall" I have to retract that since the letters were not recreated correctly My only hope is that the contractor who paints this wall...
  6. Lunch Time

What kind of burrito? Being of Mexican ancestry, and having a mother, 2 wives, 2 sisters, my dad and myself who made/makes everything taste like Mexican food, well, Mexican cuisine lost it's charm 30 years ago. It qualifies me to say this... let the burrito go... there are a million more where...
  7. Dimensional bent steel, 1/8" x 3/4", powder coated

The image looks like bent steel to me. Usually when I call out something this funky, I would have already seen if this was possible and referenced a company with the capability. I get clients who's in-house designers, design this type of thing. If this was sent out to bid, I can almost...
  8. Dimensional bent steel, 1/8" x 3/4", powder coated

The picture you show, what material was that? What material are they calling out? Is it going to be painted? Gemini can't water-jet cut that? It might be pushing the limits or some water jet cutters with the thickness thats called out (if it's aluminum). Depending on the quality of their cutter...

I highly suggest looking into: http://www.imaginationcorporation.com/sign-workshop/
  10. Just getting started

This and probably the 3 most important right now... Do you have any experience? How are your design skills? How are your software skills? (design and software skills are 2 different things) When people used to be mentored in the business, you sweep floors, instal signs, then get into the...
  11. What does this mean?

If you are going into most of the these as a new project, most jobs I work on like this are in the hundreds of thousands, some of these jobs are in the millions of dollars. Most everything has been worked out code wise, permitting is usually a breeze, bidding is easy, sometimes all you have to...
  12. Suggestions Part Time Pay ?

So Texas min. wage is 7.25 an hour. I don't know why people pay part-timers so little - they should probably get a little more for the inconvenience of requiring 2-3 jobs because they can't get insurance and work a lot more to make ends meet. That said, 15 for a clueless college grad sounds...
  13. What does this mean?

Actually, yeah, there are a lot of dumb replicators (sign shops) This one drawing shows that even the person calling out the sign can't make a layout even when called out. There is a graphic standard for quite a few government signs, my bet is that some sign vendor rebuilt this drawing, and...
  14. What does this mean?

I agree that a full-size editable and vector template would be nice. On standards like this though, the reality is it takes one lazy person to mess up a drawing and it usually only gets worse as times goes on. There are so many designers that are this lazy and there is so much wrong with that...
  15. What does this mean?

Looks like alignments and sizes are off... First Off: -- The + logo is not where it's supposed to be called out, and there is no measurement called out on how high it sits on the sign. -- The changeable number panel says one size, then gets thrown off on the detail drawing. -- Also looks like...

  18. Need Help illustrator creates multiple over lines over image

The way you were doing it, It is tracing both the black, and the white. When the black and white border each other, they are required to have their own vector in order to replicate the color. "IGNORING WHITE" removes that extra vector needed and simulates a hole or "compounded" vector
  19. Need Help illustrator creates multiple over lines over image
