  1. SP-540V Ink Line Replacement

It is always worth trying to clean the heads as there is nothing to lose but time, but when they have been sitting this long I would be very careful doing it. When they are very clogged trying to force cleaning solution through can cause the inner ink diaphragms to split, and they they a write...
  2. SP-540V Ink Line Replacement

Budget for two new heads as well as after that amount of time they are going to be shot. That is probably why ink isn't drawing through them as they will be completely clogged with dried ink and sludge. The nozzles in the print head are extremely small, and even if you get them unclogged they...
  3. sp-540 Neither head fires at all after replacing manifold on black/cyan head

Thank you for the reminder as well, I need to get some on order as I don't have any in stock either at the moment! I always keep the head transistors in stock but haven't had to repair a servo board for a long time, but I should get some in just in case!
  4. sp-540 Neither head fires at all after replacing manifold on black/cyan head

I agree though it is frustrating sometimes! unless you can actually do board level testing, then often the only option is to replace boards and see if that fixes it. I always think of it that the printer is there to make you money. The longer it is sitting not working, then it's not making you...
  5. Need Help VP540i Crash / Shutdown

i would agree the servo board is the first place to look. It is probably worth replacing it and seeing if that fixes the problem
  6. sp-540 Neither head fires at all after replacing manifold on black/cyan head

Check your existing servo board though first and see if the LED is lighting to show it is getting power, and also as Jim suggested, check for voltage showing at the two fuses. This can rule out a lot of problems. It could be one of the main chips on the servo board has failed, and unfortunately...
  7. sp-540 Neither head fires at all after replacing manifold on black/cyan head

Ah ok, if it didn't have the Roland logo on it then it's a chinese copy not an OEM board. That does make it harder as you never know if they are actually designed correctly and are going to work. If the product image showed an OEM part and they sent you a copy, I would return it as not as...
  8. sp-540 Neither head fires at all after replacing manifold on black/cyan head

Servo board is to the right of the main board ( as you look at the boards from the back of the printer ). Threre is a green LED on if it is powering up ok. It is the largish board with lots of chips on it and ribbon connectors
  9. sp-540 Neither head fires at all after replacing manifold on black/cyan head

One thing. Where did you get the carriage board? Was it a genuine roland one or one of the chinese copies?
  10. sp-540 Neither head fires at all after replacing manifold on black/cyan head

From either head ? I would be looking at the servo board in that case as the carriage board has been replaced
  11. sp-540 Neither head fires at all after replacing manifold on black/cyan head

It sounds like the head could be shorting :/
  12. Is Everyone Tired Of AI

I dont think I have ever used a chat bot that has actually answered the question I had or been able to help with a problem.
  13. Is Everyone Tired Of AI

I can also see it coming to a point when you can never get to talk to a real person. And if you can it will be a case of 'computer says no' as they won't be allowed to overrule a decision their AI system has made as the bosses have spent millions on it and believe it is great
  14. Is Everyone Tired Of AI

The problem I see with AI is it isnt very intelligent at the moment, but companies will believe it is and rely on it to do everything. Imagine trying to phone your bank over a problem like a company taking a payment twice from you, and all you get is an AI bot that can't understand what you are...
  15. Mutoh 1324x head replace

Also there are quite a few scam sites in the far east. If the seller only has bank transfers or similar for payment, then they are a scam. Make sure they will take paypal or credit cards !
  16. Mutoh 1324x head replace

Look for the service manual for the printer, this will take you through step by step how to change it. Avoid anywhere selling the heads cheap ! Ones from china sold as new or refurbished are typically used and don't work properly, and you have no chance of returning them. Stick with a legitimate...
  17. Copying Vintage Old Logo labels for restoring old equipment

Often you can also improve on an old logo as the old printing techniques often gave quite a fuzzy edge, so with modern printers you can get them looking a lot sharper, more how the company would have wanted the original decals to look
  18. Copying Vintage Old Logo labels for restoring old equipment

Most simple ish text logos I can do in under an hour with a half decent copy to work from. This logo was done from scratch and probably took about 40 minutes. You do get a lot quicker the more you do them though. I normally find it easier just to work from scratch rather than trying to...
  19. Copying Vintage Old Logo labels for restoring old equipment

I agree with above. You need to consider that the decal is applied to a curved surface, so the baseline of the top word will be flat. You also need to take into account how the curved surface effects the width of the text. if the decal was laid flat it would be wider than it appears on the photo...
  20. Copying Vintage Old Logo labels for restoring old equipment

Yes, I do quite a bit of this. I scan or photograph what I can get, import into draw and then recreate the design as a vector over the top of it. It's the only way to get a decent original result as pretty much all old labels were screen printed, so printing scans never gives a good enough...
