It is normally the cartridge sensor switch in the cartridge dock. They do fail with time. Roland don't sell the switches on their own annoyingly, but you can get used cartridge docks on Ebay. They can often be quite intermittent as well which makes them even more annoying to diagnose!

Yes I know, just pointing out that in most cases a non working printer cant have the head saved. Epson heads really hate not being in use regularly, so when buying a non working printer always assume the head is going to need replacing :)

Anything is fine as long as it has plenty of memory, storage space and a good graphics card. It doesn't have to be mega fancy. Illustrator doesn't use many resources anyway
