  1. color drop out on Roland VS-540

Check the cyan hose all the way from the ink cartridge to the damper for any leaks or signs of air in the hose. The connectors to the ink cartridge dock can often let air in. A powerful clean will often draw enough ink into the hose to print for a while as it uses a lot more suction than...
  2. New Print Head, Now what?

They are, but the main thing is they hate being left idle. The best advice I give people is make sure your printer prints something every day, even if you just make up a graphic of coloured blocks to print out as a test to keep the ink flowing. The amount of times you hear the printer was fine...
  3. New Print Head, Now what?

Manual cleaning is fine though to keep the outside of the head clean, and clean the cap top, wipers etc.. it really depends how much work you are putting through it, but regular changing of wipers etc.. is always a good preventative measure
  4. New Print Head, Now what?

Just keep it printing and running and always plugged in so it can run the auto cleaning. The only time you need to do a head soak is if the head is causing problems and missing nozzles. Too much head soaking can actually damage heads, so really it is only needed as a repair, not as general...
  5. SP300v stops printing

Yes, for some reason Roland didn't add the network connection option to the 300, only on the 540. No idea why they did this as it meant needing a different main board in both printers.
  6. Urgent Help 2

You do design work, yet can't even do the most basic layouts or designs and make them look professional :o That pic isnt even a design, it's just the most basic font stuck onto a pic of a building.
  7. SP300v stops printing

Possibly, running the printer from a PC or laptop directly plugged into it tends to work a lot better. I have seen similar problems a few times though, and it was nearly always the cable to the printer. The other time I saw it was when a laptop connected to the printer was going into sleep...
  8. Urgent Help 2

How have you managed to work as a sign maker for over 10 years and not learn anything about layout and design? OK if you want constructive criticism... your designs look like they were done by a 13 year old on publisher 25 years ago. If you really have no talent for design, then employ someone...
  9. Need input on which kind of Computer is the best to use for Designing.

It can also depend a lot on you OS. My design PCs run on Win7 as it is the most efficient I have found. Anything after this is full of bloatware and loads of crap running you don't need. Win10 in particular is awful! It seems designed to just watch photos of cats falling over on youtube, and is...
  10. Roland 300 Printer problems

Check your damper for signs of cyan ink in the magenta. Also check the cap top is sealing properly against the head. My money would be on the cap top needing replacing, but the dampers should also be replaced as a service item anyway. Also look for build ups of ink on the wipers and give them a...
  11. Roland XC-540 Cartridge error

It is normally the cartridge sensor switch in the cartridge dock. They do fail with time. Roland don't sell the switches on their own annoyingly, but you can get used cartridge docks on Ebay. They can often be quite intermittent as well which makes them even more annoying to diagnose!
  12. Urgent Help 2

To be honest you are supposed to be a designer. You have taken on this job for the client on the understanding you can offer them a professional looking design. If even a simple good design is beyond your skill set then perhaps you should think of a change of career? Just coming on here...
  13. Epson 9890 Print head DX6

Also Epson never designed the heads to be a repairable item. For a print company they are a consumable item and you expect them to wear out and need replacing. One big company I used to tech for would change all the heads every 3 months as part of the service. Those printers were used about 12...
  14. Epson 9890 Print head DX6

And really the only way to stop it happening is for a printer to be in regular use, and left plugged in so it auto cleans up until the day you collect it. Sadly this rarely seems to happen
  15. Epson 9890 Print head DX6

Yes I know, just pointing out that in most cases a non working printer cant have the head saved. Epson heads really hate not being in use regularly, so when buying a non working printer always assume the head is going to need replacing :)
  16. Need input on which kind of Computer is the best to use for Designing.

Anything is fine as long as it has plenty of memory, storage space and a good graphics card. It doesn't have to be mega fancy. Illustrator doesn't use many resources anyway
  17. Urgent Help 2

Are you still working on this :o Does the business not already have a logo you can use to base the sign design ?
  18. Epson 9890 Print head DX6

Well this is why people sell them as 'not working'. They aren't always completely honest about how long a printer has been sitting for, or just say 'it was printing fine before' Plus if they can't fit a head themselves, then the head cost plus getting a technician often makes it uneconomical...
  19. Epson 9890 Print head DX6

Sometimes it can just be completely random. It can also depend on the ink colour and brand used. Some colours are a lot more prone to blocking ( white is terrible for it ! ). It can also be down to a head having a few badly blocked nozzles initially, and the owner tries repeated cleanings to...
  20. Roland 300 Printer problems

How is your test print looking? Check your cyan damper and see if it is showing any signs of contamination from the black ink.
