  1. Back printing acrylic

If you're doing backlit signage, you want to print 3 layers of ink - color/white/color. It's the same idea as the reverse print on the inside of a backlit solvent printed sign - it prevents the colors from washing out when the sign is lit up. If you're not backlighting it, though, a 2 layer...
  2. Looking for a thicker eco-sol printable, removable vinyl

Claritex is polycarbonate, so you wouldn't get the conformability of vinyl, but that may not be an issue. You can get polycarbonate laminate (http://www.rtape.com/product-lines/eclypse-overlaminates), so you could just laminate whatever vinyl you want with it and get instant rigid removable "vinyl".
  3. Question Best flatbed for printing corrugated plastic

We have a CET Q5-1000 flatbed, and at the fastest speed (2 pass), I can do approximately 6 full double-sided 4x8 sheets per hour (12 if only single sided). Normally I print yard signs either 2 pass or 3 pass depending on the design. We have 3 Ricoh Gen 5 printheads (KC,MY,WW) installed, and we...
  4. CET owners, past and present

No, it's something you're typically not supposed to mess with. They did do an overview of the effects of voltage and temperature on printing during the training I went to at the CET facilities in Atlanta. I would imagine if you go for their tech training they would cover that probably even more...
  5. CET owners, past and present

We've had a Q5-1000 flatbed (3 Ricoh printheads) for over 3 years now, and we haven't had any major problems. I would consider them to be a good choice if you want to service the printer yourself. I went for 1 week of training at CET which was oriented towards end user service - learning how...
  6. Discussion ZE 680 vs AP3155

Yeah, I spray on / wipe off. The mixture settles out in the bottle, so I just shake it up before using it. I usually keep buffing/wiping until it appears mostly dry (at least until the alcohol evaporates), but I have noticed a slight "greasy" film can be left behind sometimes. It is supposed to...
  7. Discussion ZE 680 vs AP3155

If you're direct printing acrylic, I'd recommend using digital print acrylic if you can (Optix DA, Evonik Acrylite Digital, etc), instead of trying to use adhesion promoter. It's a lot less messy, and the results are the same. However, most lines of digital print acrylic have limited options...
  8. Composer Vs. Illustrator

For a start, try to make your meme in Composer. If you can do that, it might help your point a little...
  9. Need Help Gerber Edge 2 how to take off shocks

Those are ball joints on the ends of the springs. If I remember correctly, the connectors should pop off the frame if you pull or pry the springs away from the frame.

  12. Have always loved this

Speaking of realistic wraps: (for some definitions of "realistic" and "wraps")
  13. Have always loved this

Since when is the Copenhagen Zoo in Texas? I think I found the original source - https://www.adsoftheworld.com/media/ambient/copenhagen_zoo_snake_bus
  14. What printer did this?

I'm almost certain that header came out of Gerber Omega. And of course the only printers Omega supports are Gerber printers. Going by the registration mark, it doesn't look wider than a standard Edge print, but if it is, then it's probably a Maxx or Maxx2 printer.
  15. Opinion Buying a used flatbed

The VK300D uses Kyocera KJ4A printheads. This might not be the exact model of printhead it takes, but Digiprint Supplies has the KJ4A-RH print head listed for ~$7.4k. According to their data sheet, they support Caldera & Onyx. https://vanguarddigital.com/uploads/files/002_vk300d_data_sheet.pdf...
  16. Flexi / Caldera?

Yeah you can export artwork as a PDF with standard Flexi CutContour colors, and Caldera should recognize that right out of the box. I do it all the time.
  17. Unicorn Material - What is it?

Sure looks like solid PVC. The glossy face foamed pvc doesn't like that inside, not even the 6mm sheets. You might want to look KOMADUR PVC from Kommerling. It's a Type I PVC and I don't think it's foamed. (I haven't actually seen a physical sample of it though.) FWIW, I found this on the...
  18. Unicorn Material - What is it?

I think 6mm Komacel (glossy surface) is fairly rigid. It's a lot more rigid than Palight 6mm, from what I recall.
  19. Uv printer had some line when prjnt white

It looks like your white printheads are not aligned with the color printheads. Did you go through the printhead alignment procedure? Also, if your RIP supports the option, you can shrink the white print area by a few pixels. In Caldera, that option is the "Adjust" field on the white ink...
  20. Need Help Looking for Flame Retardant Non Tear Material to print on

We use UltraFlex SuperSmooth PET blockout for our retractable banners, and it has a smooth matte finish. It's obviously thicker than paper would be, but it's smooth like paper.
