The only difference between the 2, is the backing. The optically clear has the polyester backing paper which keeps the adhesives clear, where the non optically clear has the paper backing and gives it that haze.

We do it on solid color wraps, and sometimes on racing stripes also.

I am not real familiar with a sp-300v but I know when our 540 has produced images that were grainy like that we had accidentally left the print head hight up. Is that a possibility?

I am assuming you are using versa works? What color management profile are you using? Have you sampled the color in photoshop to see what the RGB values are for the black?
