caldera is the only other rip that can work with a CET FK512. i had some conversations with them. it's not terribly seamless. caldera rips, then a .prt is sent to the printer via a windows xp utility? .... not sure. i am still astonished at how, not just bad, but horribly laid out onyx...

i doubt you'll need the Q series. the heads in that machine cost a fortune ($4500 each?) and they don't lay down a thick layer of ink. you will get for more than enough resolution at 720x720 and you get a lot better looking product from a thicker ink lay down.

i'd give it about $10k+ for install. maybe $15k. you'll need proper power, a line conditioner, freight, rigging, ink, software. please get an exhaustive maintanence kit. that is a mistake we made. these things don't like to be unplugged. tubes get rigid when empty, you'll need line...

can you change your voltage with this printer? looks like the jets are firing just not getting the right bump.

black pigment when thinned down will usually have a warm or cool cast (has to do with the type of black pigment). if it's transparent or brownish, that's just because it's too thin of a coat. bump up your density or to a double / triple strike.

if the dem is importable in a 3d program (like rhino). i'd just import it and boolean the part into the slices. then just export the curves to dxf.
