Think you will find a lot of places do upgrade to a separate computer sooner then later. We have been doing that with Flexi/Onyx for as long as I can remember.

Have had some communications issues as well as of late but I am blaming Flexi for it, re-ripping the file usually fixes the issue. As to the firmware, whether I try it on the computer of the printer it almost immediately fails and errors out.

I'll second 2CT, on our second Summa in 20 years and wouldn't want any other cutter here. We print on Nikkalite 48000 and then laminate and contour cut without any issue. I do it slower then normal cast sign vinyl, but it works like a champ.
