  1. What do you guys think??

Shouldn't matter, Even if it is, the help posted by some can be read by others and be helpful to them, even if it isn't helping the OP. I like to look at it this way: If the OP is a troll, those reacting with only negative comments are the only ones really giving into that person's trollness...
  2. What do you guys think??

Squint Test..... Does it pass? If not, back to the drawing board. If it's an outdoor advertisement it should pass the squint test. Study up on contrast and space. It's extremely important for this type of work.
  3. Mural Outside Sign 4 X 8, Material, Process, Help Please.

OH jeez. There are multiple products to place around the hole that would help if a person were afraid there kid might slit his or her throat on dull aluminum. And the labor to do so wouldn't take any longer than sealing the edges of a wood product. I simply recommended it because it...
  4. Mural Outside Sign 4 X 8, Material, Process, Help Please.

It should go without saying you would need the right blade for cutting aluminum of course. It should only cost a few bucks at the most.
  5. Mural Outside Sign 4 X 8, Material, Process, Help Please.

    A jigsaw would work.
  6. Mural Outside Sign 4 X 8, Material, Process, Help Please.

Don't use wood, go aluminum, and use acrylics. I would suggest Nova Color. You have to order it though and pay attention to light fastness and the type you are ordering. Better yet do a search for Nova before you order it. There is a few things you need to know, but it's worth it. It's a...
  7. What do you guys think??

So it looks like we've got the starts of an icon based design. At least that's what we call it here. Which is good. Think of the atlas guy holding up the planet as your icon. With that type of design you have some flexibility when it comes to layout. You place the icon above the copy (or...
  8. Art Charges

Bob technically I did not put words in your mouth. I never accused you of saying anything. That being said, I do assume you were following the same train of thought you have in the past, that signs are a commodity. It appears as though you now seemed to have changed your opinion based on your...
  9. Art Charges

Not sure bob, I'm not going to measure ____ with you. I've never seen your stuff. I'm sure it's great. Whether or not your stuff is superior to anyone else's, doesn't change the fact that a sign shop can "get away" with selling design as a service. It makes no difference if you think it's...
  10. Art Charges

Back in the day you didn't have a whole lot of clients expecting to see fully fleshed out layouts before you actually physically made the sign, like they do now. Not small businesses anyway. And those rare occasions when a customer would request something like that, you better believe that sign...
  11. What do you guys think??

It might help to give those letters some room to breath. The space around letters is about as important as the letters themselves. I'm not saying you need to design an interstate sign, but have you ever looked at one up close while you weren't speeding on by. The space between letters are...
  12. Art Charges

Whether what he says is true or not, if those that "aren't all that good" are getting away with charging an art fee, somehow convincing their clients that the art/designs have worth, and are making a living doing it, then surely those that are good, can do it too. In fact, they would have the...
  13. New shop van wrap design

That's the thing, customers always want their phone number on their signs and vehicles, because they put it on everything else, but when you ask people if they actually use that information off those outdoor advertisements, the vast majority of people will say no. The small number of people who...
  14. New shop van wrap design

I did a poll on facbook, not too long ago, asking how many times a year had people either copied down a phone number or called a phone number off of an outdoor advertisement including vehicle graphics. Pretty much everyone responded never. The person that said they did use a phone number off...
  15. New shop van wrap design

No one will remember a phone number either. A web address is the best way to go. If you don't have a website, surely you have a Facebook page. Buy a domain (hopefully one that matches your name so folks only have one thing to memorize), create a simple landing page with a contact form, phone...
  16. Using the Nation's Flag in a design.

Not always knowing the financials of our customers, I like to err on the side of caution and assume that they are on the edge, or at least assume that the decisions we (our company) make as designers have somewhat of an effect on the success of their business. Maybe not the only thing effecting...
  17. Using the Nation's Flag in a design.

    LOL. Good point.
  18. Using the Nation's Flag in a design.

Well it is a part of our job. I can respect it not being a part of your's. I guess the difference between us is that I understand that if a client is conscious of their customers' tastes and promotes their business accordingly, they have a better chance of being successful. I have also found...
  19. Using the Nation's Flag in a design.

That might be the case, but since part of our job is to create something that is designed to appeal to the masses, some thought and reflection on this subject may be appropriate, don't you think?
  20. Using the Nation's Flag in a design.

Technically it's not the Flag. That's my opinion though.
