I feel better for having read it, too.
You can never stop learning, no matter your stage in this craft (well it used to be a craft)
I see so many people who never even think about kerning, who use two scripts in the same layout etc. Not just newbs.
I see cluttered, busy layouts. Clashing...
In this veritable block of text, I really had to strain to find out which supplier you are praising. Paragraphs are your friend.
I am a Glantz gal all the way.

That's that one font that that one fire truck apparatus company uses exclusively.
(can't remember their name)
It's hard to match but you could maybe try an Atkinson font from The Fontry

I usually throw in the hours if they buy a big sign.
If I am being paid specifically for the hours on the door, I typically go with Stevens Percepta or Chesham Sans.
Helvetica Black is too bulky.

First off....rick, that sign is uglier than a hatfull of @ssholes.
As to the OP: I also adhere to the codes, even if nobody else does. You could take pix of the other places who have the exterior window lettering as examples and apply for a variance.
In my township, one is not permitted...
Your designer's ones are not much better, very dated looking.
You need to design for the audience you wish to attract.

Design your name first, then add your sub copy. You may or may not need an oval, as it overpowers...
They also deliver (no minimum) for a very small fee. Pioneer also delivers but has a minimum order of (I think) $35 and they charge (I think) $1 more for delivery than Glantz.
Call N Glantz in Monroeville 1 800 642 4240.
If they don't have a blank in the size you need they will cut it for a nominal fee.
There's also Pioneer in Pittsburgh.
I've been dealing with both of these since the 1980s.

Laird sells to the general public.
I'd make something that you could actually read, in a nice font, with a good layout, and probably charge a lot more than you would.
I usually don't quote prices in the main forum.

PS
If you already did it...what did you charge?
Do you routinely do a job without quoting a price...
:Big Laugh
Outsource it.
That is, if you know how to prepare a file.
Or learn to use our friend, Mark Registration.
I would also add an additional border of white, as I try to avoid using black on glass as it doesn't have a lot of contrast.
