    i would say enclosed is always better but if you have to use the pick up just wake sure you wrap/cover everything real good to keep dust and road debris out. which ever way you go make sure it's tied down good so it don't move around too much.

    for the most part you just keep it clean and you are good to go. similar to your car just do the regular maintenance and you shouldn't have any problems. we had to replace the capping staions and do a pump up grade but for 9 years of pretty solid use i would say that's not bad.
