  1. making a double sided stop sign

There is no mathematical reason that the technique you described wouldn't work, therefore there's either a strange bug in your software, or you screwed something up. Why not do it again and check your measurements at each step to find out at which step the problem appears? Maybe your square...
  2. Need Help Is it possible to add bleed to a .ai or .eps file that has a lot of layers?

How did you do it? For complex artwork like this, I normally just copy the artwork to a separate "bleed" layer and then apply Offset Path to it. However, that method does not work on clipping masks, and this artwork is full of gradients in clipping masks.
  3. Vectorizing an image

Scroll up, the link has already been posted twice.
  4. Monument artworks

Trading/sharing artwork that you didn't create is unethical and illegal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright
  5. Vectorizing an image

Your English is fine. Just stop writing in all capital letters.
  6. Output method for LARGE file

Andy_warp I'm really looking forward to your proof that lossless compression is lossy. Edge of my seat here.
  7. Output method for LARGE file

Just adding my support that everything Andy_warp has said in this thread is incorrect.
  8. Font name

It's definitely a knock-off of Times New Roman (Bold Italic). It's not an exact match, as it's clearly been redesigned for engraving (shorter, thicker serifs and thicker cross strokes). Whatever it is, it was probably bundled with some ancient engraving software.
  9. Review Impact librairy outlines problems

We always design with the assumption that the template will be off by 1, 2, 3 inches in some parts. You can't expect better than that when you're using a 2D template of a 3D vehicle. For example, for side windows we'll use the shape from the template plus a 2 inch bleed, and for rear windows...
  10. Font name

Also the font is Times New Roman.
  11. Font name

Yikes, I'd be rolling over in my grave to avoid looking at the counterforms and spacing of those letters.
  12. Output method for LARGE file

I would stick with the PDF. Preflight in Acrobat, fix any potential issues (convert colours, flatten transparencies, etc.), enlarge it up to full scale, then load it into VersaWorks and see how it looks in the preview window.
  13. Designing Monument Sign - Difficult Location

For clarity, a monument sign is one that is at ground level and usually more horizontal in proportion, whereas a pylon sign is one that's elevated/tall/vertical. If you have a 14' height limit, then a large monument sign is probably better than a short pylon sign. Echoing above, you need to...
  14. Tenant / Owner Requests

If the landlord didn't give the tenant permission to put up a sign, that's between them. I've never heard of a landlord starting a dispute with the sign company instead of the tenant. However, if the sign requires a permit, written permission from the building owner is a prerequisite for a sign...
  15. Printing problem

PDF/X presets are in Illustrator/Photoshop/Indesign. I don't know which one works best with Flexi's RIP, but my approach is normally to use X1A on complex designs, because it's the oldest, most compatible, and part of that is because it flattens transparencies.
  16. Options for getting large patterns digitized?

If that's the case, ignore all the advice you're getting about cameras and find someone with a large scanner. Unless someone here knows how to perfectly compensate for all the different types of distortion that a camera introduces.
  17. Monument font

It's definitely based on Cheltenham, with some details simplified for engraving (i.e. flattening the tops of the T and the 5). Note that there are two distinct sets of numerals (oldstyle vs ball terminal) available with different versions of Cheltenham.
  18. A strange "what would you charge"

$15–18 per banner for 30 banners sounds about right to me, if you're OK with doing it at cost for this buddy/client. We would break even at $21.43 CAD (= $16.31 USD) per banner, running them on Roland eco-sol in a relatively expensive city.
  19. Printing problem

We only use PDF for production here. If your RIP supports PDF, there's no reason to use anything else, as it's far more versatile than EPS or TIFF. If you encounter problems with how your RIP interprets a PDF, there are several compatibility presets you can use called PDF/X, which will simplify...
  20. Apple Mac Pro

Mac Pro sounds like serious overkill to me, if all you're doing is teaching Ai/Ps/Id. Why not a Macbook? Teaching graphic design would be a breeze on my 2 year old Macbook Air, that's still doing a fine job of running the latest CC updates.
