  1. Printing on static cling problems

I agree, 6 months shouldn't be a plasticizer issue...although with that said there are some really poor quality materials out there so who knows. I've seen all kinds of plasticizer problems on banner materials but never static cling. I use Solvex and have had rolls older than a year not give me...
  2. Black vinyl on Large windows

More than your post lol! Just having a little fun with ya, no disrespect meant. I think he was humorously suggesting brown paper as an option instead of the black vinyl mentioned in the OP? I thought it was a good post bc I see so many contractors using brown paper still, when there are more...
  3. Cutting substrate with mounted prints

Old or incorrect bit, too slow feed and/or too fast rpm. If the bit is dull (happens pretty fast) then doesn't matter what you do you will get burrs. Too slow feed rate and the bit will continue to rub the already cut edge as it slowly moves resulting in burrs. Too fast RPMs will do the same...
  4. S50675 - Pantone Colors not matching. Cyan especially

spot color replacement issue in ONYX?
  5. Black vinyl on Large windows

haha right! I've started giving away the liner paper from rolls of laminate for contractors to use. At which point I can usually up sell them to cheap, unhemmed banners attached to the inside of the window with double sided tape. That way they can advertise the upcoming business while working...
  6. Printing on static cling problems

Looks like the latex printer heat settings aren't hot enough...I would get those same results when my heat settings weren't hot enough. If you can't go hotter then you have to slow it down. There's not enough time/heat to allow the ink to dry into place before it goes into curing phase. I'm used...
  7. Suggestions Picking a laminator - GFP, RS, Seal

I've used GFP, Seal, Ledco, and Royal Sovereign....The Seal was my favorite but I've been hearing that their support and parts aren't as accessible as they used to be, although I never had a problem...frankly only ever needed one part in over 5 years and it was a small switch, I called em up and...
  8. 3m ij35c peeling off. interior latex paint. what to do?

might work better than 35c but being calendared and removable it's probably not going to work good enough to prevent lifting/peeling on a latex painted wall.
  9. 3m ij35c peeling off. interior latex paint. what to do?

Modern latex paints are designed to be easy to clean i.e. nothing sticks to them. This has been a problem in the industry (and a huge pain in my rear) for at least a few years now. There are a couple workarounds that have helped me out. If it's a permanent installation then use a high tack...
  10. Double Sided Lawn Sign Printing on FB700

Full sheets all day long, then trim them in between print loads. Using production speed, 600 x 300 I can output 400 finished signs a day (comparable to "express" mode on newer models). Same job using precut sheets is about 300 a day or a little more, if you have a good operator who doesn't leave...
  11. Double Sided Lawn Sign Printing on FB700

Also just took a second look at your picture....you can also flip every other sign with a design like that. So that the pink on the bottom buttes up to the pink on the bottom of the next sign, then the white on top of that sign buttes with the white on the top of the next sign and so on. Making...
  12. Double Sided Lawn Sign Printing on FB700

There's a lot of good ways to do it already mentioned. But what I do is this... - set it to print centered on the sheet (on the printer not the RIP) - set it to measure every load, using the "minimal" setting. Minimal will only measure the leading width and find the starting edge, which is what...
  13. FB 700 automatic head maintenance frequency

About 4 years ago on an FB950 I was able to purchase a generic shop vac (220) and it was identical to the one that came with the machine except for the plug configuration...I cut the plug off of the OEM vaccum and wired into the new shop vac and it worked flawlessly. Cost was $80 for the vacuum...
  14. For those of you outside of Texas...

Well said! Great insight into the kind of thoughtful and logical processes that go into even the "simplest" of yard signs. And remaining politically neutral while doing it too! I appreciate your honest and detailed design evaluation and the direct relevance to the OP....refreshing :-)
  15. Adobe Photoshop Or Illustrator???

Illustrator and photoshop integrate with each other quite well these days and i tend to think/use them as a single piece of software. By placing vector smart objects into photoshop and linking psd files in illustrator the possibilities are endless and the former limitations of vector/raster are...
  16. Where's Gino & Johnny Best been??

I feel you Gino, but if/when I help anyone I'm not caring about any returns or lip service I help them because they need help not because I need my ego stroked. Help is only help if it's free, otherwise it's a trade. And I'm sure you've helped and will help out many in your days, but to call a...
  17. Where's Gino & Johnny Best been??

Isn't a large part of the purpose of this site to put the best and the worst in the same room as to learn from each other? So naturally wouldn't there be a lot of "hacks" (aka people growing and working hard to get better, which by the way is where we ALL started) on this site? And so wouldn't...
  18. Adhesive Vinyl

Orajet and 3M are my favorites...I’m using 3M for their cast wrap materials and Orajet for my flat signs and decals. Orajet 3551RA with 215 laminate is a nice option for long term outdoor signage on flat surfaces ie ACM or similar. And Orajet 3165RA with the same laminate will perform just about...
  19. Weird Question

I can't tell if it's the greenish light source reflecting onto a standard vinyl/lam or if it's printed onto a color flip? Perhaps a standard vinyl with an iridescent overlam? But there are definitely some colored reflections in the video... Looks like a fun project, when we slow down for the...
  20. Don't waste time with high quality

So let's propose an imaginary scenario.... A customer calls my shop looking for some graphics for an upcoming art exhibit. Let's say it's the gallery director calling and she/he is new to the job and not sure what type of product they need. All they know is they need something for the title of...
