  1. found a bong in kids room

20 years ago I would have gone ape-**** crazy, gone and snatched the kid out of school, and screamed until I was blue in the face. I never smoked it and went out of my way to belittle people who did. Now, after getting past the paranoia, and learning the vast majority of my successful friends...
  2. new logo

The explanation (excuses) explained: • We knew we wanted a logo that reflected Yahoo—whimsical, yet sophisticated. Modern and fresh, with a nod to our history. Having a human touch, personal. Proud. (all meaningless chiches) • Other elements fell quickly into place (we threw...
  3. Threatened to sue.

That would be about the same as me suing Multicam because I'm not making money with the CNC router I can't afford to buy from them right now.
  4. Threatened to sue.

I have a construction guy I do work for who has told me on more than one occasion that he's sued large suppliers just to put off paying them. If a project has delays and he's not going to be able to pay for six months he'll sue so that it's tied up waiting on a court date for months which buys...
  5. Shadow Question

The only way I've ever found around that in Flexi is to create the lettering in a straight line, add the drop shadow, convert to outlines, then apply the arc through the distort tool. It's incorrect as far as where the real shadow would fall but optically it looks better.
  6. What NOT to do when Selling a 4x8 sign and installing it....

Addie...you do know that posts come in different lengths, don't you?
  7. What NOT to do when Selling a 4x8 sign and installing it....

I've installed about 500 4' x 8' real estate signs in the last five years. I'm not a real sign person because in the last year I have... -thought i wouldn't need to survey the site -assumed the ground won't have boulders the size of VW Beetles buried 6 inches under the soil. -always assume my...
  8. Something we all need to keep in mind during tough times........................

That's horrible. I thought only realtors scoped out the obituaries for potential prey.
  9. Installing Big Flat Signs to Corrugated Metal Buildings.

I wouldn't trust J-channel top and bottom to hold the 7' tall panels in over time. It won't take much wind across the face to flex the panels enough to pop them loose. You'll need to add screws to the faces if you do it that way. I'm doing a 3' x 24' sign right now. I'm having my frame...
  10. Colorado has a new $1.5 million dollar logo

Don't be surprised if very little of it was "bribe" money. I've learned something working with government committee's lately. They don't look at it as spending $1.5 million dollars because it's not $1.5 million dollars coming out of their pocket. Colorado has a $20 billion a year...
  11. Colorado has a new $1.5 million dollar logo

I actually like it. It's instantly recognizable, it's not covered in gimmicky effects that will make it outdated in five years, and it's basic, iconic shape make it easy to use across the 10,000 platforms it needs to be used on. Designing an effective logo that has to work for everything from...
  12. Company truck wrap design - Tear it apart!

Stays open on my computer almost all day long.
  13. Company truck wrap design - Tear it apart!

Do you remember Thunderhead? Tall, storm powers? Nice man, good with kids. November 15th of '58! All was well, another day saved, when... his cape snagged on a missile fin! Stratogale! April 23rd, '57! Cape caught in a jet turbine! Metaman, express elevator! Dynaguy, snagged on takeoff...
  14. Fine arts vs. Graphic arts majors

My take on it is that you're comparing apples and oranges. Art and Design are not the same thing, therefor Fine Artists and Graphic Designers are not the same people. Fine Artists tend to think creatively. Graphic Artists think technically. Fine Artists accept imperfections if it enhances...
  15. Company truck wrap design - Tear it apart!

Man, while it has become iconic I always thought that album cover sucked.
  16. Company truck wrap design - Tear it apart!

Yes, it is a rule of thumb. Yes, I agree it looks wonky. No, you're not being a jerk at all. I stuck it up there because Bruce Bowers (Dr. CAS) pointed out to me one day how many wrap designs people post on here won't work on the other side of the vehicle. The problem with the one I posted...
