  1. Question Who has the Whitest High performance Reflective vinyl???

I have a perfect photo for this. Z stripe on a fire truck over those roll-up panels. New 3M 180C white.. a few areas on the roll-ups got messed, so I grabbed some scrap, which happened to be FDC. Took a photo... FDC stood out like a sore thumb. Looked identical out of a direct beam - shone much...
  2. GM vinyl for Camaro SS

Haven't done any Camaro's yet, but done a slew of Mustangs with both "factory" and aftermarket supplied stripes. I can't remember which, but it was marked as Avery and felt extremely thin. I used RapidTac just as a precaution - had zero issues doing that, just had to wait and be creative on the...
  3. Fire Dept. Font

That's the one I was trying to think of. I think they picked up Leo's as well - all their stuff looks like old Leo's. And I did call them once weeks ago.. I was willing to have them typeset a name for me.. never heard back. I was in Hutchinson just last year for a camper rally!
  4. Fire Dept. Font

Proprietary to the engine manufacturer. Pierce, Seagrave, KME and others are all starting to do their own thing in house. That particular font is a "Leo's Gold Lion" font - used to be available to the general public, but now they're selling only to the manufacturers it seems. I can't find a...
  5. Need Help 3-d ribbon

I'd cut a piece of 3mm pvc and heat and cut to shape. And your prices are way low...
  6. Been using this for a long long time...........................

Compound and wax... nothing else will get it out. I have that happen quite a bit.. the paint is actually cooking a little, just more noticeable on a white vehicle.
  7. bubbles

I like ya Gino... but if someone says they can lay any non-air release vinyl of any type in any environment and get no bubbles ever... they're lying through their teeth. Incompetence has nothing to do with it. Bubbles happen.. it's just a part of laying vinyl.
  8. Suggestions Applying vinyl to cut out letters

Pre-sheet, then rout your letters. Or if they're already cut, apply an oversized sheet as you would any other vinyl job and trim to contour.
  9. Hydrophobic coatings and glass

I use acetone to remove adhesive when I have no other alternative (like Rapid Remover not working for some reason). On modern finishes there isn't a problem, so long as it isn't a brand new paint job (a month old or less). But since you're working with glass, just don't drip on the surface. I...
  10. Hydrophobic coatings and glass

I don't think the ceramic coatings are applied to glass, but I could be wrong. Chances are you ran into an application of Rain-X. Did you ask the owner what was done? Multiple swipes with acetone and alcohol will remove Rain-X.. don't know about the ceramic coatings.
  11. Decorative routing into ACS? Does it work?

1/8" is too thin to attempt something like that. It will bend or distort - there's no way around it. Use a thicker piece or simply rout your border in the same material you're doing the letters and apply... assuming you're applying letters and not just routing them from the surface.
  12. Home made Take up reel? Take up Reel hacks?

I bought one of those cheapy dual motor $200 generic ones on eBay. Didn't hold my hopes up as the "tension" system is a joke. But... the media wraps as needed, gravity (mostly) provides the tension. Been using it for almost a year with no issues.
  13. School me on Grommets

Yep, all of the above. Did the hammer die and punch for years. Finally broke a finger when I missed in a rush one day. Bought a Hiker the next day.
  14. Vehicle Wrap - Looking for Feedback Critique

Get rid of the graphic images at the bottom right corners, move your black text to the bottom and put it on one line with a bullet between the 'no credit' and 'free delivery' (convince your client they don't need the "get approved" copy - contradicts the "no credit" part). Move the phone number...
  15. New shop tool

^ Right. Rivets are usually aluminum. That won't help with trailer trash... but it's great for doing the parking area where your work trucks are parked to pick up stray nails and screws....
  16. Font Help Help identifying a font on a Pierce fire truck

Pierce won't give out any information on their graphics. It may be something proprietary, the closest I found was Flange Regular. You might be able to modify it enough to work.
  17. Suggestions Where can I purchase random sign install accessories?

Fairly rookie questions, but ok... you need to quantify what you mean by a "cap" for a sign. There isn't anything commercially available that I know of for plywood that is "decorative". If you want to put a decorative look to the sign, you have to cut it in a decorative fashion. Same for an...
  18. Moldy vinyl?

No, not seeping, but actually failing. Top layer first, and generally you won't see it once peeled oddly enough. Years ago when Avery was having it's issues I had dozens of police cars with reflective showing these exact properties, and it was the top layer of the vinyl (the "color" part)...
  19. Moldy vinyl?

That's not mold - that's material failure. More specifically, the adhesive layer. JBurton is right - for an ecosolvent, outgassing is extremely important before running it through a laminator. That said, that sign must have had (still have) some significant sun exposure to cook it that bad. I...
  20. Looking for best adhesive remover

^ Which the primary ingredient is Xylene, followed ny Naptha.. o_O
