  1. Another hand carved sign...

Looks great to me! Nice job!
  2. Suggestions 3M Di Noc Install Pricing?

If he's supplying the material, shop rate with a minimum. I haven't worked with Di Noc, so I don't know how difficult it is or not to maneuver. But why sell yourself short? You'll need some extra hands, ladders or scaffold at the very least.
  3. Need Help Car Wrap Vinyl Removal - How to sell it? Explaining the high price to customers

Flat shop rate per hour, 2 hour minimum, plus materials, no matter how small the job is. I don't work for free.
  4. Need Help Need Help identifying this vinyl product

Just a guess, but it looks like it might be edge sealant, like you would use on wraps. Cut the main copy (white), outline it, and weed the outline. Apply everything and add edge sealant to the outlined area. Pull before it sets - you have a perfect outline of sealant. Whether or not that's what...
  5. I think they used "Good" material what do you think

Nuthin' unusual. Looks like it's on the side of a boat. Probably one of the toughest environments for vinyl there is.
  6. Need Help What to use for stained glass look

Up to you. Any translucent vinyl will work. I've printed on frosted for various effects..
  7. Need Help Realistic Motocross Bike Images

Yep, a high res camera and go to it. Those are actual bikes up on stands. Professional photographers are your friend for doing stuff like that.
  8. Discussion Police car graphics gone bad

It's all conjecture since we can't physically see the pieces nor know the circumstances by what the failure happened. Move on. I would have no issues with outsourcing to the police-graphics.com if you're unable to do the job yourself. I would talk with whomever you're talking with at the...
  9. Avery Gold Chrome and Gloss Black 911 Carrera

Off topic, but it does appear to be a Carrera GTS. Perhaps he added a turbo to the engine.. you don't know (nor anyone else) for sure..
  10. Looking for a "good" X-Acto knife?

Hmm.. never had an Xacto barrel fail (or grip rubber). Blades loosen, yes.. Rolling off the table.. I use the Gripster(s) with the anti-roll collar...
  11. Avery Gold Chrome and Gloss Black 911 Carrera

Not my taste, but looks like a quality job. No worse than the chrome Lamborghini's.
  12. Dancing around a 3M color

The right way? Which way is that, Joe? Matching the printed stripe as they have on their other vehicles, or since I can't do that, layer the three colors that are in the stripe with the appropriate colors (which I am doing)? I've let the department know that I cannot match what they have exactly...
  13. Dancing around a 3M color

Well... when it's a fire department that has to have consistency, you have to do what you can to the best of your abilities. I've been very fortunate to find alternatives to some problems that turned out better than the originals - and those departments are now valued clients.
  14. Dancing around a 3M color

Yep, it's a Pierce stripe I'm trying to duplicate. The blue isn't an issue, it's that weird gold. There isn't even a decent PMS match to start from. I don't think it may be possible with a solvent machine; the pre-loaded profiles for FDC's gold wasn't even close. But then, I've never really...
  15. How do you protect your money?

    What money?
  16. Dancing around a 3M color

Excellent... I'll give that a test over the weekend. Thanks, Joe! Oh.. and I do use Flexi, albeit a very, very old version.. my 3M palette doesn't even include reflective. But the FDC section does.. I'll have to play with that. Just never though about looking through those swatch sections - my...
  17. And another... may be an old Leo's Gold font

That's actually not bad! I'll have to bookmark that for later use. RJ Marx won't sell even a typeset word - they'll only sell their product as a finished product. Not a great business model, but whatever.. I've replaced enough of their work (and digitized each letter) to have half the alphabet...
  18. Dancing around a 3M color

Well, that's the point of the exercise - print on white reflective to obtain a standard reflective color. I've been "trial and error-ing" all afternoon and can't even get something close.. blue, red and greens are somewhat easy.. the golds are the pain in the a$$!
  19. Dancing around a 3M color

Hi all, Has anyone been able to successfully match (or close) to 3M vinyl colors with a solvent ink? Specifically, the gold reflective. I know reflective has it's own issues with white points and all, but I'm trying for my own edification to get as close as I can to this particular gold. Yes, I...
  20. Need Help drybrush fonts

If they provided you with that logo, why not just use the file they provided? Someone had to make it initially - ask them who designed it and work from there. I'm not going to get into how crappy that logo really is...
