If this is your main product, then you have the wrong machine and will probably burn it up to the point where you'll have to replace it anyway. If you only do this occasionally, then using multiple passes is going to be your best bet.

I agree with C5. Airleaks and dampers, then the print head. The only problem I've seen with choke valves was early on when they got stuck closed overnight. A firmware update fixed that.

Sounds like a communications issue which usually has to do with the network more often than the main board. Have you tried connecting directly to the printer from the computer with an Ethernet cable?

where does it say not connected? - on the control panel? In VersaWorks? what exactly does it say? Are there any error codes/numbers in the message?

I think first off, if you don't have a spectrophotometer to create profiles, you're fighting a losing battle. Secondly, I doubt that the driver for this printer will support CMYK +NN channels - I'm not sure on this as I've never tried it before, but I would get the hang of creating profiles...

This proves the point, I think. Avery made a minor change to their 1005 vinyl and gave it a new number - 1105. If they made that drastic of a change to their flagship product, they would be advertising all over the place and give it a new product number.

be aware that most warranties - including Roland's - do not cover physical damage to the head. The warranties are basically for defects in materials and workmanship and specifically exclude misuse and abuse. So if there's a scratch on the bottom of the head, you may be on the hook for it.

+1 for what VanderJ said. Also take a look at the bottom of the print head and see if there is any physical damage to the nozzle plate. Check the condition of your cap top - clean or replace as necessary.

What color of adhesive is on the 3m media? this might be enough to block out the old graphics. If you go with option 2, then use a gray vinyl instead of white - much better opacity to cover the old graphics. I think if the old wrap is stuck tight, you should be able to go over the top...
