  5. Full page ad for Computerized Cutters, Inc. in Signs of the Times

Looking at the ad again... especially with the American flag all over it... It might have been a more positive message to give a skilled American worker the ability to produce 5 times more than knocking American employees... your still gonna need someone to run the thing, and finish the...
  6. All I've been doing.... (A sign designers late night rant)

Ive taken a step back when learning the computer side of this business... went from 35.00 an hour in construction to 6 bucks to learn this... and though I get paid very well now... it's not what I want to do. When you learn the code stuff you can get stuck doing it all the time. I really need...

Is draw boxes and type on my keyboard for the past 4 months... boxes... numbers... WORDS!!!! Still up, making lame permit drawings and drafting 3 types of fuffeeheaded illuminated ADA signs... I'm gonna run away, give myself a paper cut and pour lemon juice on it just so I can feel...
  10. Full page ad for Computerized Cutters, Inc. in Signs of the Times

I just wanted to add... I never watch TV but found the show "The Profit" very enlightening. This guy values employees and recognizes they are key to success and usually gets more insight from the employees than the owners. I think most sign shops would fare no better than this guy...
  11. Full page ad for Computerized Cutters, Inc. in Signs of the Times

One thing you have to remember Tim, if you have read enough posts on what kind of person they should hire, 9 times out of 10, they believe training someone right out of school or college is better than hiring a trained craftsman. Most here are quickie sticky shops... they don't need one...

I just saw the ad, A stapled letter machine can't replace a craftsman... though it can replace a guy who makes cheap, stapled letters...
  13. Why didn't I think of that???? (scaling)

We use a 18 x 24 coro with 4 boxes in black and white in a checkerboard configuration, that way we can clearly see the panel in any color background. I have Illustrator with CADTools, each layer being a different scale, I have an 18 x 24 box and size the photo to that box. Then place the...
  14. Detailed articles on marketing your sign shop and managing the business side

I think there is some apprehension because we had someone give us a spiel about automating the process with virtual employees (crowdsourcing) and then turned it into a sales pitch (he was a Tony Robbins minion) I'm actually not against a sales pitch, his rates were not all that...

  16. I think I need new software but I have no idea - please help!

Hopefully you don't need your old files... Corel Draw (or Illustrator) is fine for designing, then you might need a bridge program like Cocut (http://www.cocut.com) just make sure they have your cutter driver.
  17. Wrecker service truck lettering

I just noticed that drop down "T"... looks a little awkward and the name loses the slant... I say slant it some more and don't worry about the space. Treat it like a logo, the concept is a car/truck being lifted or when the arm is raised, the logo will slant. I saw the truck, it's...
  18. Wrecker service truck lettering

I say it's almost there but... On the last samples.. on the left, there are 6 separate typefaces/fonts - on the right, 5 That's too many. To me it's kind of a mess The City/State strokes need to be consistent. The phone numbers kerning... on the 1888 needs adjustment. I think if "INC"...
  19. Office entry sign

And this is what makes you a good business man... It's tough... the monument job I refer too started in 2010. Most of the work I do will be built years from now. My clients sometimes finance hundreds of thousands. It sometimes does not pay off for them... thank goodness I still make money...
