  1. More of Phillip's handywork...

I agree on the coloring. The coloring wasn't Phillip's doing. I picked the colors from a Pantone chart. On the chart I liked them, but on the logo, against various backgrounds, etc., it looks more pastel then it did on the Pantone chart. The colors are being changed to some that Phillip...
  2. Dusted Crystal, Frosted Vinyl....

I do subcontract installations, so everything is provided by others. I'm just not familiar enough with the exact requirements as far as which transfer paper and backing should be used with which vinyl. It doesn't seem like the materials used were meant to be used together.
  3. Dusted Crystal, Frosted Vinyl....

I've installed a bunch of this over the years, but yesterday I installed some that just kicked my butt. I don't recall which was which, but one of them wouldn't release from the transfer paper and the other wouldn't release from the backer. I don't usually have a problem with vinyl, but this job...
  4. Show your rides?

Surely you know Clint here in Dallas...?
  5. Quickbooks

Because unfortunately there are people that are naive and will do it.
  6. Pole diameter?

Typical pole length is 40'. So depending on the overall height of the sign, once you set part of that 40' pole below ground in a pier, additional stages of pipe will be required to reach your required overall height. When the poles are staged, the next stage is a couple of inches smaller in...
  7. reverse molding lightbox

It's not the same thing. Signs don't have "molding". I was trying to establish if you (or he) were referring to the retainer. If it's not clear what you (or he) are talking about, it's kind of hard to help. Since it sounds like you (or he) are referring to the retainer, I don't have a clue what...
  8. Does anyone know...

...if there's anything similar to this that's sold in the U.S.? click I've heard of using a wire wheel, but would prefer tool designed specifically for this.
  9. reverse molding lightbox

Ceilings have molding. Signs have retainers. But still not sure what he means or what the actual question is...? Does he mean he wants the bottom of the cabinet ("lightbox") even/touching the top of the supports? If so, weld a smaller stub pipe in each support and build the cabinet as a...
  10. 10 x 10 Pan Face

Agreed - most places max out at 8' x 20'.

  12. acm cutting

Not an abrasive wheel. You need a saw blade for your table saw or circular saw that is specifically made for cutting metal. Keep in mind, if you cut it with a shear, your top edge will typically be turned down slightly from the pressure of the blade. That's why the preferred method is to use a...
  13. LEDs on banner?? Anyone?

If they're a fiber optic company, wouldn't they want to show off their fiber optics? Normally using fiber optics would be pricey, but if that's what they do, why not use their product on a sheet of ACM or similar?
  14. acm cutting

What are you using to cut it with? A jig saw, table saw, or circular saw (all with metal blades) or a router will work fine.
  15. Any difference between clear and gray VHB tapes?

This is a pretty exhaustive reference of the various VHB tapes: click
  16. Any difference between clear and gray VHB tapes?

It's a pretty big chore to separate two flat pieces that are adhered with the clear VHB tape. The stuff is extremely strong. So if the pieces you're attaching are flat, and you have a ton of the clear like you said, I would use it. 4941 works on a variety of materials and is also extremely strong.
  17. Any difference between clear and gray VHB tapes?

The clear is great at bonding metal. The only caveat is the surfaces should both be relatively flat/smooth due to how thin the tape is. It's not as forgiving as the thicker foam tape.
