come to think of it... I'm pretty sure I bought one through www.solventinkjet.com too that was top notch as well.
  2. need a dx4 head

I've bought a couple through macmedia.... great every single time. http://www.macmedia.com/
  3. upgrading my computer. any advise?

When I do layout or any type of work... the more monitors, the better. Let's say I'm doing a menu layout in InDesign and a customer sends me a word file with the info. InDesign is open in one monitor and word in another... copy and paste between the two. (I also do this a ton from my email...
  4. upgrading my computer. any advise?

I love making my own "build a barebones kit on my own"..... I do all my shopping at newegg.... the things I like, I put in a "Temporary Wishlist" which adds up all the totals. I've never found a bundle that I liked, they've never really fit my needs. As far as i5, i7, etc... I always shop...
  5. upgrading my computer. any advise?

I agree with SightLine & Choucove.... Get a 120GB or larger for your main drive to run your OS, programs, etc...and use your large regular hard drive as storage and backup. The only thing in my shop that I use my NAS (Network Attached Storage) which is basically a hard drive unit that is...
  6. upgrading my computer. any advise?

I have had good luck with the cheap sapphire cards that I've used. I really don't do "gaming".... so insane graphics aren't high on my list. I did learn to stay away from Zotac... it seems their capacitors like to mushroom. I did try my first SSD and man-o-man is that a world of difference...
  7. upgrading my computer. any advise?

Anyone looking to expand to 3+ monitors, I've found a great little tool by HIS that lets you go beyond 2 monitors pretty dang easy. I was thinking about getting a more expensive video card (like something with eyefinity) then I came across this for $45 and it works like a charm. I was really...
  8. SJ-540 runs out of ink on LONG prints

    Alright... that makes sense.... Thanks!
  9. SJ-540 runs out of ink on LONG prints

@ Jack Night1979.... I'm trying to understand how the "INTERVAL" works. The default is 1.0..... but even with a setting of 25 it doesn't stop and clean fast enough. My red starts turning pink.... I "pause" it and it then cleans and refills. looking at the service manual it says "Cleaning...
  10. SJ-540 runs out of ink on LONG prints

Thank you all so much for the info! Since I love learning things.... "in layman's terms" what is head speed? What does it "do"? - :) Miked.
  11. SJ-540 runs out of ink on LONG prints

Thanks everybody! I'll definitely get into the service mode and tweak things before I print out the two big banners that I have left to do. Thanks a ton! I came from the HP aqueous world and I've only been using this Roland for the past two years, so I'm by no means an expert. lots of trial...
  12. SJ-540 runs out of ink on LONG prints

I tried every search I could think of, but couldn't find anything.... sorry if this has been addressed already. I have a sj-540 and on really long prints (15-20ft +) it sometimes runs out of ink in the head and starts to starve for ink on heavily used colors. It's almost like the machine...
  13. Wensco has really impressed me lately

Hello... I just want to say that Wensco has really impressed me lately. a HUGE thing to me is standing behind your products. I've gotten a couple of rolls of media that I wasn't impressed with... they let me return them and they really didn't have to. My Wensco brand grommet press got a crack...
  14. Canvas that doesn't "crack"?

thanks everyone! I'll give the "experimenting" with different coatings first since I have almost a full roll. If that doesn't work, I'll check into that media that you guys mentioned.
  15. Someone please explain gerber edge printers

@ BlueFishDesigns.... I went to a tradeshow once where Gerber showed us samples of things printed on an Edge 2 that didn't look all that horrible. But! I'll be darned if I was ever able to get anything to look good in cmyk. I think there are "magical" settings that might have helped but I...
  16. Canvas that doesn't "crack"?

Hello, I've searched and can find nothing on the site about this. Does anyone know of a canvas material that doesn't "crack" when you stretch it? Meaning... on the edges of the stretched print (see attached picture). The one that I have tried (sihl) seems to crack really bad on what appears...
  17. Someone please explain gerber edge printers

Spot color reverse print on clear static cling with a white flood coat over the image. I've been looking for an Edge for months now... well, one that I can afford. I have yet to find a static cling that will actually run with my converted SJ540 without looking like horrid mud.
  18. Roland Color Rip + CS5 = wrong size?

Well, since I have a SJ540 proII (I converted it from a FJ540) they only use Roland Color Rip 2.2 - versaworks is not compatible with the older machines. It's a good thought though. It's almost like something in the new jpgs (or even a tiff or eps) is making Color Rip go strictly by the...
  19. Roland Color Rip + CS5 = wrong size?

Well, I mathematically figured out that as long as I size a picture in photoshop (cs5) at 144ppi.... it will come out at the correct size. man... this is stumping me. hmmmm......
  20. Roland Color Rip + CS5 = wrong size?

Hello, I've done some searching and found no other mention of this.... I've been using Roland Color Rip 2.2 and ever since I've upgrade to the Adobe CS5 Creative Suite all jpgs that I drop into color rip come out the wrong size. example: in photoshop cs5 the jpg is 53" x 18.053" @ 150ppi ---...
