as far as a simple plotter goes, I bought a graphtec ce5000 24". I do all my printing like jiarby says. I think I paid $1500 for the plotter new. If you have the money and want to do it all... then the versacamm 30" might be for you. It seems like there are a bunch of them used for around $5000.
Since we are a smaller building, we do have a vent that goes outdoors but no fan that is hooked up to it. Even with Roland brand inks it gets a little stinky... I'm pretty sure that it's time to try and hook up some kind of a fan to it.
here was some quotes that we got in our area from other shops for a 3x8 full color banner.
business 1 @ $6/sq ft
business 2 @ $6.05/sq ft
business 3 @ $10/sq ft
business 4 @ $5.50/sq ft
based on this we set our price at $6/sq ft. and pretty much go no lower than $4..... based on a % scale we...
Some local guys around here have been using a new ink from the uk with no problems in their Mimaki printers. It's called DigITL - http://www.itlgb.com/
I got the stuff in 1 ltr bottles for $110 each for my Roland.
The only US distributor that I know of is Richards Distribution in Michigan...
I was going bananas trying to figure out what cutter to go with and how to come up with a print and cut workflow that would work with my SJ540. I finally went with the graphtec because it had the super easy to use plug-in for illustrator.
Someone also pointed me to some web videos that...
I am giving a 3rd party in a try... it is made by a company in the UK called DigITL. I guess the engineers who make it came from another company that makes inks for Roland and Mimaki (I can't remember exactly how it was explained to me... but they worked for somebody???) Anyway... of all the...
Dave at solventprinterconversion.com is a GREAT GUY. super helpful and trustworthy.... he helped me convert my fj-540 and I couldn't be happier. his heater kit is really a great quality product. If you buy a kit from him it comes with everything you need. (I think heads are extra???... but...
my favorite is popular photo/poster sizes.... "make my 20x30 shape into an 18x24" --- if cropping doesn't work for an item I'll sometimes stretch a certain part of the image that is unimportant.... like some trees in the background. If it works for the image and looks alright, 99% of the time...
I did end up giving the ink a shot. It's the first time I've been excited about trying to run out of ink. But... I got down to about 5% on two colors and my head board had to be sent out to be fixed. pretty cost effective... a 1ltr bottle costs $110
I used one at the old shop that I used to work at and I would say for a water based machine they are pretty good. The color it could produce was really great.... It could actually hit blues without going crazy purple. It also did a really nice job on straight up pantone colors. They were...
thanks for the good advise! i have always made sure to have the machine unplugged from the wall when I've messed with the heads. I've got things narrowed down on my machine to maybe the head board is goofy. I'm sending that out to macmedia in NY that repairs them so they can test it.
Thanks...
awesome!!! somebody wrote me back! Thank you very much!
I just got a new multimeter (old one was cheap and broke) - so tomorrow I can go back and actually test the fuse. I've never messed with anything while the power cable has been plugged in. I might go and pick up 2 ribbon cables for...
Hello all.... I have a FJ-540 that has a blown fuse. After printing great for several hours group A suddenly stopped working after I switched to a different media. To test for a blown fuse, I swapped cables from M+Y and group A printed again. Since Group A is head 1+2... I checked the service...
I've searched the forums and there's lots of info on head board fuses... but besides my local Roland dealer.... where can I buy a fuse (or several)?
I have a SJ-540 and the fuse has the following info on it...
SOC 72V
T 3.15A
If anyone has a source for these I would greatly appreciate it...
Has anyone ever tried the 3rd party brand ink... digitl ink from the UK? I did a search on this site and it turned up one thing and the person said they have been using them for 6 months... not if they are good or bad.... if they've gummed up their printheads or not.
We have a local supplier...
