They are alright machines... very similar to a 5500. Heads are cheap and you can sometimes pick them up on ebay pretty cheap.
The only thing I would warn you about is the cost of media. banner stock can run anywhere from .60 to above a dollar per sq ft. The print quality is pretty good...
I did just get off the phone with SIHL and the rep guy was pretty cool. He said that basically the did have a problem awhile ago with air bubbles in the coating of the paper "popping" and creating the "Fish Eye" fun. He took down my lot# of the roll that I had and said they would send a new...
Just today I contacted Advantage Sign Supply about some Sihl TriSolv paper that I got from them.... same "fish eye" problems. You can see the spots on the paper where it will happen... and after it is printed on, they show up as lovely white spots on the print. I hope they are cool enough to...
I just wanted to give my honest opinion about someone who I've dealt with over the past couple of weeks and that person is Dave Callender from www.solventprinterconversion.com
A few weeks ago I decided to give converting my Roland FJ-540 over to use solvent ink a shot and here's how it went. I...
Well... I talked to my brother who is an engineer (he got the brains in the family) and this is what he emailed back to me....
"That is a stepper motor. They come in standard NEMA sizes (usually 2 digits to represent the size eg. 17, or 23). They come if a few different types, but all...
Hello all, I have a customer who gave me a sample of some cut vinyl they had made for them in the past and I have no idea of what the material is. It has a clear release liner and the vinyl has a very bumpy texture. I brought it to Advantage Sign Supply here in GR and they couldn't tell what...
We've been treated very well by advantage sign supply. They do have a warehouse in Chicago.... I'm not too sure how much they charge for shipping, we always pick up here in GR.

Yep... you lose the the middle plate and just go with the top solvent resistant plate and the double seal... and that was it!
The only thing left to do now is to tell the machine it has new pumps... insert the ink and teach the heaters how to not overshoot. (and fiddle with anything else...
Thank you for the replies. I'm going by memory here, but I remember looking at it last night and thinking that it needed a sub-plate to take up the space between the head and the top plate. Are you saying that the new twin seal can be put in place and it will stay put?
Hello... I am in the middle of doing a conversion of my FJ-540 to print eco-sol MAX and we are a little stuck on the part of installing the new solvent resistant plates onto the heads. The part that is confusing is there is a "sub-plate" that looks like it has O-rings in it that do not come out...

we have a 2TB Western Digital My Book World Edition II Dual Drive Network Storage external that has worked pretty well so far. paid $220 at newegg. Normally I build everything myself... but I thought I would give this a shot. Has worked great and super easy to setup.
JeremySI - If I was looking for a printer, I would definitely check this one out. (actually, if I saw this 2 weeks ago I might have bought it myself) - If you could work out shipping it might be a great deal. they can fit up to 50"(ish?) media and print to a full 48"(ish?) - When you really...
this might actually help you... I am going to buy a CE5000-60 this week and I've been having a really hard time trying to figure out what is going to work for me as far as printing the registration marks for contour cutting. Well, it seems that the plug-in graphtec makes for illustrator works...
Well, after doing a lot of homework, I've determined that I am actually going with the Graphtec CE5000-60. It has a plug-in for Illustrator that creates registration marks that stay when I do a "save as pdf". I can take that into roland's colorrip 2.2 and print it out from there. Can't wait...
