  1. recommendation needed for new laptop

Yeah.... the whole fanboy thing (mac vs pc) is completely craptacular and silly. Macs and PC's are both good machines... kinda like two different car companies... They both will get you where you want to go. Is one better than the other? Maybe at a couple of certain things... I like how...
  2. recommendation needed for new laptop

also.... Chuocove's statement "Your statements towards PC quality, trial software popups, and everything else only falls into a select category of the cheap Dell off-the-shelf computers." Yeah, I can't stand off the shelve computers either.... that's the awesome fun thing about building your...

@ choucove.... A Linux fan!.... I've been toying around with Mint 10 lately for one of my kids computers... pretty dang solid and runs really well on the little Atom computer I built for her. Works great and is FREE with lots of FREE software. :)

  5. Big Squeegee Laminator?

I love the Big Squeegee but it was driving me nuts with air bubbles. In my case I am pretty darn sure that the cause was my table. I've heard people mention in youtube videos that unless your table is nice and level wherever you use it, you can get bubbles. as far as getting rid of them...
  6. Controling dust on media before printing

Hello, I did a search for "dust" and got LOTS of pages of unrelated topics... so I'm super sorry if it's already been mentioned. I'm new(er) to the world of eco-solvent printing (converted my FJ540) and one thing I really notice is how much a little tiny speck of dust on the media REALLY...
  7. What are using using to RIP to your Mimaki JV3 SPII (Firewire) isses

Kurt, I have a D-Link (DP-301P+) "Fast ethernet parallel port print server" that you can try out. I'm not using it because I bought it for a converted FJ-50 that I never ended up getting. If the thing works (fast enough) you can buy it off me really cheap.... I paid $50 for the thing.... if...

Kurt, thanks! even better! Since that is a stock that Advantage carries that would be pretty easy to order. They also sell General Formulations but mostly in specialty stocks only (that I can see from their catalog and online site). Thanks!!!
  9. Recommendations for a good printable matte vinyl?

Thanks for the recommendations... General Formulations is out of Sparta which is about 20 miles away from me. I think I'll give them a call tomorrow. I'll also check on the 3m product, I think advantage sells a lot of their stuff. Thanks again, and if anyone else has a recommendation I will...
  10. Recommendations for a good printable matte vinyl?

Hello. I am wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a GOOD MATTE printable vinyl (eco-sol)? Currently I'm using oracal orajet 3640 which is a economy 3mil stock. The 3640 is ok for cheap signs but what is a good matte stock that looks great when printed? Thanks for any help or...

  12. Problem with dx4 printhead! Banding! Please please HELP with cleaning solution!!!!!

When I converted my fj540 to solvent we had to flush the lines with warm water. We used warm distilled water that we bought in a jug... put it into refillable cartridges and cleaned them out that way. I'm pretty sure this wouldn't hurt the heads (as long as it's distilled... not spring)...
  13. God I hate these type of customers

before I owned my own shop I used to print out a life size version of whatever I was doing on the oversize B&W oce printer that we had. I would also do the "take a picture of it" method and make it life size in illustrator. Now that I no longer have access to a oversize B&W machine, I make...
