I don't have x-4, but I imagine that its not much different than x-3. Once you select File / Save As on the right side of the pop up box there is a selection that says version. It has a drop down box where you can select the version to save as.

Like said before, fill the voids with a filler (I use a good quality body filler) but I run a hand held router with a 1/8" roundover bit around the edges, then prime with kilz, and paint with a couple of coats of one shot.
