I have not experienced a choice like yours, but I did move from my family & friends in Chicago, to Oregon in 1979, with my first wife. We were 20, and by 21 we had a baby & a new circle of friends & were very happy. Family was 3000 miles away, but our future felt like it wasn't in Chicago, so...
