We do tons of vehicle wraps and have a network of subs we use. On average, we pay about $2.50/ft for vehicle install. Never per hour. Always per foot. Rate varies depending on severity. Box truck, $2 a foot. Chevy HHR, $3.50 a foot.
  2. RF640 Combo with Dryer

We have an RF 640 and it's always been a workhorse. I have Oki color painters now so it doesn't get as much use. I didn't know dryer was available for it but I would def get it or add something to it. The drying bed on the machine is very small and I've had issues when running banner and some...
  3. UCJV300-160 purchase - looking for input

I demo'd the machine in their rockaway, NJ showroom. I was impressed with the printing but the cutter left a lot to be desired. I have stand alone plotters so it's not a big deal to me. They wound up using a 3m white ink which happened to be the answer to the soluable white issue. Overall...
  4. UCJV300-160 purchase - looking for input

I read the threads he had and there were certainly some big issues in the beginning. It looks like he was satisfied after the ink change however.

Hello All! I'm in the market for a roll to roll UV printer. It's intended use is primarily for white ink printing on clear materials. Does anyone own the Mimaki UCJV300-160 or the Mutoh 1638UR? If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it. There isn't much available in UV roll to roll out there.

I'm on a job in Washington DC. Is anyone within an hour or so of here that could cut me about 10 square feet of white sign vinyl? I'm in a jam and need to do it today for an event. I'm down here from NY so don't have access to anything. Please email me or call if you can help. Thanks, Chris...
  11. What features on a router can't you do without

I would find a way to make room for a bigger table. The day you get a 4x8 table you'll get asked about a contract for 50" x 100" cutouts
  12. How to get your printer off the truck!

We had a Rolls Roller delivered and the pallet was 4' wide and 16' long. We had to get a Flatbed towtruck to come pull it off the truck and then he backed up in my shop and slowly put it down on our floor. I wish I recorded it. It was a very skilled operation. He charged me $75 to do it so...
  13. Question What is Competitive Pay for Various Positions

I'm sure this all varies by region as well. Our lead installer makes about $40 an hour. Helper/jr mechanic makes $15 an hour. Production assistant who does all the laminating, trimming, contour cutting, weeding, masking, poster mounting, banners, grommets, etc makes $14 an hour but is due for...
  14. Storefront Window Graphics

IJ180 is total overkill unless your client wants to get the absolute maximum life available. We use Avery 2921ez with 2080 matte lam for most of our windows. It's an air egress film. Stiff enough to make install easy and quick. Removable adhesive. Glass has such a high surface energy, there...
  15. Need Help Can Window Perf used for for a windshield banner?

I can't imagine how it would blow off if installed properly. If you do it again, make sure it's laminated with optically clear lamination. Also use lam tape and put a strip across where the perf meets the glass. Also make sure to use edge sealer on all the cut edges.
  16. Suggestions Vehicle Templates

We do at least 200 wraps a year and use Bad Wrap for just about all of them.
  17. Computer Upgrade suggestions

We're going through this process now. We all work on 27" imacs, all maxed out with ram and SSD. All of our file storage is on a Synology NAS also with SSD's for caching. We do a lot of vehicle wraps so we typically work on files 2-10 gigs. I recently upgraded my computer to an imac pro, 10...
  18. What is the name of this substrate?

Definitely Komatex or Komacel. Outdoor PVC. They all have a glossy sealed face.
  19. Question 2017.5 Murano back window

I have a template for that vehicle but rear window perf is one of those things you need to measure and just make your own. Template won't work well for it.
  20. Help! Onyx 11 RIP-Queue Keeps Crashing

Every once is a while, someone will use a special character in the file name by accident like parenthesis or a comma. This usually locks up onyx pretty good. Once it's removed, everything is back to normal.
