  1. Pondering the old sign “painter” days…

Ahhhhh, the good ol' days of sign painting... I remember my first mentor... he worked at a local theme park, I had a huge crush on his daughter. Anyway he was a really good sign painter, and a patient instructor. He moved away taking the daughter with him. Several years after my wife...
  2. Farming out jobs

i just gave you 2 powdered donettes... GET TO WORK!
  3. help! largish job pricing

Was thinking the same thing... Plus an introduction might help... we don't even know the capabilities of the OP
  4. Farming out jobs

Though before you do that... and depending on the work... check your state to see if a contractors license is required. Technically, in California, you can't take a job that requires a contractors license then subcontract that out to a licensed contractor.
  5. need opinions

What Tim said... But this looks like it's already done. This is a layout... what part is a logo? Cut out everything that is not a logo and see how this would work on other branding situations That said, it does not pass the genital test. The bulb looks a little like a weenie... or...
  6. John Don't Go!

You're not the boss of me!!!!! (Gigi holds up a slice of pizza) Okay... okayaaaaa
  7. Aluminum Monument sign: frame and cabinet

I don't ever specify screw or rivets, especially on the face. I have seen sign shops do it, in my opinion... I get that it's the cheapest way to get access to the bolts/attachment posts but to always use them is a little lazy. Screws distort the face when tightened too much You can use...
  8. Logo Design and Providing Multiple Options

What does your contract say? Ours says 3 concepts, 3 revisions, 1 logo Without knowing the type of client, some clients... like a restaurant can afford a few designs if they are selling swag... we just finished a restaurant with 2 logos... albeit very similar... they sell t-shirts, pins...
  9. Aluminum Monument sign: frame and cabinet

On the top sign, looks like that base was not made for that monument. Did you try rocking it back and forth or seeing if it twisted? It may give you a clue. The reveal, I would clean it, and see if you see a seam. I would have hid the attachment there. Post embedded in concrete, then...
  10. general height for single pole sign in lot?

in the few projects I did in Virginia, they suggested 80" from the bottom of the sign (for ADA clearance) and traffic type signs were 7'-0" measured from the bottom.
  11. Aluminum Monument sign: frame and cabinet

The ones you are working on, are they designed already? Are they going on a poured in place concrete base? Is there anything like stone or bar or a reveal on the sign? (that could potentially hide the attachment) Single sided or double sided... on a single sided, you don't have much...
  12. How much for that stop sign?

I know the whole 'prevailing wage" thing would drive up the price of the sign but that seems very excessive. I imagine if all they had to do was 1 stop sign, then I could see 1600-1800 depending on the specs, wage and insurance requirements.
  13. Copying your own layout

My only hesitation would have been the Police not wanting rent-a-cops have their "look" I think if the police chief is okay with it... why not? But deep in my gut, my design sensibilities would be I prefer to design a new one.
  14. Buying a GCC expert 24, Will I be banned?

If you have never had a plotter, more than likely, you will never know GCC sucks till you upgrade to a Summa or Graphtec. I would always suggest a Summa or Graphtec over most any cutter/plotter but these are great production machines... if you are going to occasionally use it... you...
  15. John Don't Go!

I remember thinking this is how our relationship started out... Completely stoked about it... http://www.signs101.com/forums/showthread.php?103322-Thank-You-John-Butto&p=1083602#post1083602 How it ended was JB accusing me of showing off... odd thing was... it was not my job. it was...
  16. John Don't Go!

I tend to agree with what you say in principle Marlene. I thought I had my info hidden as well to. My only beef is... don't start something, like messing with someones reputation, then hide behind your fake name. What he showed on this site was only a tiny sliver what he showed to other...
  17. John Don't Go!

And that's my point.. again, he can draw all the cute pictures he wants... he knows his sign stuff, but why mess with a person's livelihood while hiding behind a fake name. It does not make him the head rebuker, makes him seem pathetic cuz he can hide behind his fake identity with only our...
  18. John Don't Go!

I think he should keep doing them, just don't mess with a person's business... keep your animosity to yourself or if you want to show it, suffer the consequences. It's all there... his admission It's more than cartoons, pictures and jokes so get off it. No one knows "player" no one may...
  19. John Don't Go!

Without my business partner from holding me back, I got to do this... well, till she sees it... I've read similar post as Bob's and I can see some of that going on at various forums... Means nothing to me cuz it's like, where do I belong in that... well, I'm secure enough to know why I'm...
  20. John Don't Go!

Nothing psychotropic medications and maybe a series a shock treatments couldn't fix... C'mon now... it's obvious.. right?
