  1. Your business card sucks!

On the point of what a business card is... I tend to agree with Bob. The main purpose of the layout is to make sure the client knows how or where to contact you. Adding holes, cuts and shiny spots is just decoration if it has no purpose. I've heard this too many times about shiny cards...
  2. Fire Rated Vinyl

    I ask the question again...
  3. shop employee question

I believe in the State of California, it is illegal to back charge your employees for mistakes... Fire someone... I'm thinking that might get people thinking.... or, is the workload so heavy that you need more people and that's why mistakes are being made?
  4. Fire Rated Vinyl

What type of project is this for?(hospital, apartments...?)
  5. lobby sign hints and help

Nice Examples... To the OP... for your next lobby sign idea... take a look here. http://artsigns.com
  6. lobby sign hints and help

This was my first thought. I would have used acrylic. Would be nice to see the design.
  7. Organization Help

I think most here are replicators... it may not be a commodity thing, but it may it be far from it. Even with the design/craft aspect of our work, we are selling a sign that needs supplies that need to be tracked. especially if they are dealing with multiple jobs and no feedback between...
  8. Organization Help

Maxfield Parish didn't use Corel or Illustrator either.. even if he did, he wouldn't be here, he made the equivalent of 2,500,00 bucks a year. We're just peons... I personally think if had use of a computer, he'd use one to track his print sales... I should know, I talk to him every...
  9. Probably the youngest Kid in the Industry

    Darn Whippersnapper! >shakes cane<
  10. Organization Help

Another question might be, what type of sign shop are you? Do you make more than the basic vinyl shop does? Do you do dimensional? Architectural? Electrical? How many jobs need to be redone? If there is a screw up, where in the process does that usually happen? (You don't have to...
  11. Masons Lodge sign finished and installed today

Very nice... those balls must be a sight to see...
  12. led manufacturers?

Be careful of any "cheap" or no name message board. I have had a few clients cheap out only to find the company is no longer in business and there is no way to fix it or even program it. I don't know the problem you have with Daktronics, but they are the only ones I use.
  13. What is wrong with this sign?

You may not need to go to a metal shop. I would kerf cut some angle (for a retainer) the shape of the radius corner... Then to hide the cuts, slap some aluminum the shape if the retainer face, then paint to match.
  14. Mounting to smooth granite outside

It's rough, but only 1"-1 1/2" thickness is used to bond the surface. The weight difference of the material you are dealing with is only a fraction of what granite weighs. And the sign will probably have a larger area to bond with. I think 1/8" aluminum would be a little more stable.
  15. Mounting to smooth granite outside

You probably could get away with just adhesive... granite countertops are usually epoxied to form a bullnose or finished edge
  16. is there a way to...

In Illustrator CS6, You can "PLACE" CDR files up to Version 10... I just did it, but a few things were jacked up in the file.
  17. Mounting to smooth granite outside

Another choice is to mechanically attach a backer to the granite, then use the panel with the logo and attach that to the backer using VHB and Lords Adhesive
  18. Artwork theft and showing your portfolio on other sites

Whether it was your very early work or your new stuff too many times I have noticed a logo or layout and said "That's an Antonelli!" Usually a really bad interpretation... I wonder how clients see that. Interesting about the exposure... google image Dan Antonelli and enough shows up that...
  19. Artwork theft and showing your portfolio on other sites

That one designer I posted about, I thing her colleague tried to pull the "stealing" thing... Yeah, Faulkner ripped it off too... (well, creatively translated it) http://quoteinvestigator.com/2013/03/06/artists-steal/
  20. Artwork theft and showing your portfolio on other sites

The few designers I know on Logopond and Dribble are looking for exposure and web presence. Many are also on Coroflot, Carbonnade and Behance. It's about giving your potential clients confidence that you are good. These days, it's very hard to do this business without a website. So you...
