I think that this will actually slow down Photoshop on most PCs. I would stay away from USB for scratch.

USB for scratch is NO GOOD. It will kill your performance (already mentioned above). Internal or eSATA (if equipped) is a much better plan.

I am not color expert, but I think that "custom profiling" would help with this issue. I have also seen customers adjust the "yellow" out of the gray (to get rid of the green tint) with good results.

8.6v1 should run fine on a SuperNova with Vista 64. Newer versions of VersaWorks should run Vista 64 as well. We haven't tested Windows 7 on the older SuperNovas (we are building a different "GNII" SuperNova now), but I don't see any problem installing it if that is what you want to do.
