  1. Gemini Markup

If you subtract 40% from a number, adding 40% doesn't bring it back to the original amount. That's not how math works. I've counted 5 people in this thread who have the math wrong, so here's how it works in case math isn't your forte: To calculate Gemini's wholesale price from their catalog...
  2. Need Help Help-Can I use this logo?

Yes, I realize all the examples I gave were bigger companies sued by Harley. No one's going to write a news article about the little guy that got sued.
  3. Need Help Help-Can I use this logo?

No, but they'll sue the guy who's wrapping the trailers. The more you do them, the more likely you'll get on their radar. Harley-Davidson is well-known as a company that goes after trademark infringers. When you own a trademark, you're actually obligated to protect it, or you could lose it...
  4. Graphic Design Charges

I've had a couple of times where I went so far as explaining to the customer that if we did a free design for everyone who asked for a quote, that would increase our overall labour costs and it's the paying customers that ultimately bear all that extra cost. As others have said, we do...
  5. Graphic Design Charges

We don't design for free. I usually tell clients, "the design work is part of the quote. If you're ready to get started we require 50% up front." It helps if the quote has a description of the design work. Sometimes I'll also offer them the option of paying for just the design work (100% up...
  6. Digital Effects for Photoshop. HELP!!!

I doubt the manufacturer of the trailer is going to give you the artwork to print yourself. Your client might be able to order the decals from the manufacturer and have you install them.
  7. Illustrator question

    a) Flattening transparency combines the transparent objects with whatever is underneath them, and to do that it has to slice up the results, usually based on where the overlaps are. b) Sometimes if you drop the customer's PDF file into Photoshop you can extract the whole unsliced image and then...
  8. How to create ruler scales in new Illustrator CC...?

I'd agree with that. Most designers don't understand the basic math that's required to do their jobs. Like changing scales and dealing with image resolutions.
  9. How to create ruler scales in new Illustrator CC...?

I'm aware of that, but my comments are about Illustrator, not AutoCAD. It's far easier to work in 1:10 in Illustrator since it doesn't have built-in tools for dealing with different scales. Once your drawing is done, it takes 10 seconds to rescale it to 1" = 1' or whatever you need to send to...
  10. Need help Font Gods.

    The "Q" is backward.
  11. I need your expertise again...

My guess is it's either a custom design or based on an obscure old Letraset font. In either case, it's based on Eurostile/Microgramma, which were popular in the 60s when Folgers used this old version of their logo. EDIT: Here's an image that might be helpful in identifying it. Note the font...
  12. Cutting ACM... the right way, the cleanest way...

Really? I find the scoring tool much easier to use than one of these. Easier to hold when applying a lot of pressure, and the tip doesn't break.
  13. Scanner Advice

If you're just scanning a client drawing or logo to trace a vector, your phone or the scanner built into your printer is fine. FYI the latest version of Adobe Acrobat's mobile app has a nice scanner built in. It'll correct for perspective and uneven lighting, plus it syncs to Acrobat on your...
  14. Cutting ACM... the right way, the cleanest way...

X-Acto knives are for cutting paper and vinyl. Try a scoring knife instead:
  15. Printing and Saving Vehicle Wraps

The function you're looking for is probably called "tiling". I'm not familiar with Onyx but it shouldn't be hard to find.
  16. What techniques do you guys use to cut perforated vinyl without it messing up on edges?

This is what I do. Just brace your fingers on the edge of the window wherever you can, and cut carefully. Takes a bit of practice. Try one of those mini snap-blade knives—I find them much easier to hold steady and cut straight than an X-acto, which just wobbles all over the place.
  17. Question Squarespace question

Yes, you can. Connecting a domain to your Squarespace site No, you can't. Once you connect your domain name to your Squarespace account, it's no longer connected to your old web host where your old website resides. If you really need to have both websites running at the same time, you might be...
  18. Illustrator question on opening eps files

This method works in Illustrator, too. And it works for both AI and EPS files. They haven't.
  19. Corel to PDF issues...

There's no grey area in a file format spec. It doesn't say the limit is "roughly 200 inches, give or take". It would be ludicrous for there to be allowances for "bending the rules" in a spec. You clearly didn't read my last post. PDF allows for up to 15,000,000 inches. PDF documents can exceed...
