  1. Corel to PDF issues...

Sorry, but I don't think this is worth arguing if you don't understand why breaking standards is bad practice and counterproductive. PDF standards do allow for documents over 200 inches, by changing the generic units to something other than 1 point. The real limit is 15,000,000 inches, and...
  2. Corel to PDF issues...

It's not an Adobe display limit. Corel is broken. The PDF spec allows a maximum of 14,400 x 14,400 generic units, which by default are equal to 1 point, so that's effectively 200"x200". Corel saves a 204"x204" PDF, for example, as 14,688 x 14,688 units, disregarding the limit. If standards...
  3. How do you work with the limited art board size?

In Illustrator, the workspace that you draw all your artboards and artwork on is 227.55" x 227.55". That's not large enough for many jobs I work on here, so I use 1:10 scale as needed.
  4. How do you work with the limited art board size?

Those are all things that Illustrator can do. I'm relatively new to InDesign, but the main things I would use it for are margins, easy grid setup, master pages, better page management, GREP search & replace, GREP styles, and the display performance options for working on large files. Those...
  5. Pricing Cut Vinyl

  6. How do you work with the limited art board size?

Really? I don't know much about Coreldraw, but I've always been under the impression it was more comparable to Illustrator (i.e. an application for illustration and simple layouts, not complex/multipage layouts with grids, scripting and advanced typography).
  7. Need Help What font did GM used for Chevrolet (Camaro) door labels 1997?

No it doesn't. Gaussian blur and threshold are two completely different effects that look nothing alike.
  8. Need Help What font did GM used for Chevrolet (Camaro) door labels 1997?

I'm referring to the "staircase" effect where you can see the square pixels around the edge of the letters. Once you're done in InDesign, export to TIFF at 300 ppi, then import into Photoshop Shrink the image down so the text is around 28-36 pixels in height Add a threshold layer and tinker...
  9. Need Help What font did GM used for Chevrolet (Camaro) door labels 1997?

Adobe or Linotype would work fine. Either classic Helvetica or Helvetica Neue would also be fine. The differences between them are too miniscule to identify on a label that small. You could also rasterize the text at a low resolution without anti-aliasing for a more authentic look.

Pill Gothic looks like a match. Thanks!
  11. Need Help Illustrator won't open a certain file

Did you try fiddling with the settings in Flatten Transparency? There's a slider from 0–100% that helps to determine how much of the artwork gets rasterized and how much is preserved as vector. If you still want help with this file, post it so we can have a look. Otherwise we're just guessing.
  12. Illustrator question on opening eps files

I'm not really following you. Why is it an issue? I don't recall ever receiving an AI/EPS file where the designer had actually unticked the PDF compatibility option. Do you get a lot of them? It depends. If you open it in Illustrator, you will get an error. If you place it in Illustrator and...
  13. Sans id

Having a tough time identifying this one. Any hits?
  14. Need Help Help! Wrap sizing gets cutoff when design is in versaworks

200 inches is the standard limit for PDF files. Apparently Corel ignores these standards, making it easy to create PDF files that are incompatible with other software, such as VersaWorks.
  15. Illustrator question on opening eps files

You're welcome for all the info, but one last correction: all Illustrator files have at least a subset of the fonts embedded, unless you disable PDF compatibility. When you save an AI file with PDF compatibility (the default), you can change whether you want the whole font embedded or a subset...
  16. Need Help Illustrator won't open a certain file

If "place" works, then just click Embed to make it editable. If that doesn't work, try Object > Flatten Transparency. If that still doesn't work, place it, save it as a new AI/EPS/PDF file, then place it in another new file and try to Embed or Flatten Transparency (yes, placing it twice actually...
  17. Illustrator question on opening eps files

EPS, AI and PDF files will all, by default, save the fonts in the file as both outlines and as editable text, in Illustrator. The exception is if the fonts are flagged to disallow embedding, but that's very rare. Notable exceptions I think are House and LHF. That is why when you place the...
  18. Real-life Dilbert moments...

At least they're not saying "mil" to refer to millimetres. We get confused by that all the time here in Canada with our stupid hybrid metric/Imperial system.
  19. Illustrator question on opening eps files

I think you're thinking of AI files. The PDF compatible option needs to be turned on in order for the Place > Flatten Transparency trick to work, but it is on by default. They haven't changed that for as long as I've been using Illustrator. The reason Illustrator complains about the font being...
  20. PS and colors

I should have looked closer at that PDF file I posted—just below your raster/vector settings in Colour Management, there's a setting called Use Embedded ICC Profile. If you just turn that off, then you shouldn't have to worry about what ICC profiles you use in Ps and Ai. As long as you're...
