  2. 3D programs to run with Photoshop

The new "extended" versions of Photoshop (especially CS4) have some pretty cool 3D tools. Actually, the added 3D and Video tools are what make the "extended" version different from the standard version of Photoshop. I was really impressed with what it can do. But, it does require a pretty...
  3. Want to sell CS3 Standard, but....

And if you had registered it, you can fill out a form to transfer the registration too. I found the form on Adobe's website.
  4. Arrr! (in the angry way, not the pirate way)

Vista is ver similar, but it doesn't usually require this adjustment as it's default setting in "system managed". It usually bumps it up as needed. That being said, you can make the adjustment manually as well. I right-click "computer", choose "properties", then "advanced settings" on the...

Then you can check your "Windows Pagefile" size and make it larger, add more RAM to your system, or both.
  7. Arrr! (in the angry way, not the pirate way)

Virtual Memory points to hard drive space. You didn't mention if it was Illustrator or Windows that gave you the error, but either way, it means that you are running out of free space on a hard drive. If it is Windows giving you the error, it will be whatever drive that the Windows "page...
  8. What would you DO???????

If you are just doing normal work, then I love the Linksys "G" routers. If you are transferring large files, then the "N" are very fast.
  9. What would you DO???????

Where are you using the router? What do you connect "wireless"? What do you connect "wired"?
  10. new computer, new problems

Well, I am no expert. But, I am sitting in the booth with Mimaki this morning at SEMA. I asked about your situation and they recommended several things: - Check "Device Manager" and make sure that you don't have any issues with the Firewire devices or drivers. - Ensure that the "color mode"...
  11. Some Computer upgrades?

It is funny. I design, rip, surf the web, do billing, everything business related on a Vista based PC. In almost two years of running Vista, I have had ZERO problems. I can't say that about any version of XP. No viruses, malware, trojans, blue screens, errors, nothing. I have to say that...
  12. Some Computer upgrades?

Upgrading to 4GB of RAM will help. Depending on your motherboard, you may see between 3.2-4.0GB of actual usable RAM. It won't do wonders, but it will speed things up a bit. Definitely try to get matching sticks of RAM.

  14. 46" lcd flatscreen for a monitor?

Why do you use "Display Fusion"? You should be able to stretch it without any special software. What are the advantages of using it?
  15. 46" lcd flatscreen for a monitor?

depends on what kind of video card you have... if you have a HDMI output on your video card, you are good to go. If you have DVI, you can get a DVI-HDMI adapter.
  16. Wireless Print Server

Doug, I would recommend that you do not do this. Wireless networking is great for number of things, but I wouldn't connect a digital printer or cutter via a wireless connection. There are just too many variables that could give you grief. I am a fan of a "wired" connection to any printer...
  17. mapping a network drive

I always use the IP address when mapping my network drives. The "browsing" service that is used in the "network neighborhood" is soooo flaky sometimes. Using the actual IP address is much more reliable. Like jiarby, I use the \\ipaddress\share name format. But I do it a little differently...
  18. How much power does a rip need?

Don't go with 8GB yet, as that would force you into 64 Bit and VersaWorks is not quite ready for that. We can get it to run sometimes, but others it is a disaster in 64 Bit. - Stick with a 32 Bit RIP station. 4GB is plenty for just RIP. - As long as you get a decent system, Vista works...
  19. Mutoh ValueJet

Well, it depends on how you look at it. Dealers willingly discount their equipment (demo and non-demo) at the shows in order to encourage you to buy. There is no saying that you couldn't make the same deal away from the show, you just may have to press the unwilling dealer harder to get the...
  20. CS4 is available!

I see... that makes sense. SAS, SCSI, and 10k RPM drives really do make quite a bit of difference in performance over plain 7200RPM SATA drives. I love playing around on our SAS/Velcociraptor equipped SuperNovas. They are soooo fast. I really spoils you as you expect the other PCs in your...
