  1. Before and After Cleaning Service Logo

Great concept. The character is fantastic. If I can be constructive though, the typography needs work. The "commercial cleaning" font does not go well with the rest of the logo, and the script/brush font isn't a great choice - it needs a more top-notch elegant font. It's not bad, but it's not...
  2. Profile issues help

We really need a sticky thread or an FAQ or something for this type of question that gets asked every day.
  3. Updated Logo for a Customer

I like the original better, aside from the eagle's creepy smirk which is bothering me.
  4. revised logo what ya think

I think the wrench is fine. Definitely looks better with the lightning bolt clenched in the fist. As others have mentioned, it looks like a good designer did the logo, and then the customer messed it up by trying to add something to it in MS Word. Also, a phone number rarely has any place in a...
  5. Question on file architecture for saving customer artwork and work files...

Why do you categorize by file type? The file type has little to do with the purpose. If your designer is looking for artwork files that the customer sent, they'll have to check the JPEG folder, the GIF folder, the DOC folder, the AI folder, the PDF folder, the EPS folder, the TIFF folder, and...
  6. Artwork Release fee

I'm aware that the art technically belongs to the designer legally if no contract was made stating otherwise, but I don't think the purpose of that law is so that you can hold hostage the designs that you've already been paid for. Could you explain with a real-life example of when a company...
  7. Orajet Products

Because that's not how a forum is designed to work. It's called a "thread" for a reason. Not a "dreadlock". Now back to the original topic. I don't think Orajet vinyls are designed to be repositionable after 6 months to a year. Vinyl in general is not the right product for that.
  8. Question on file architecture for saving customer artwork and work files...

    Here's roughly what ours looks like. //Cloud/Customer Name/Descriptive Job Name/design/Design.ai //Cloud/Customer Name/Descriptive Job Name/design/Design v2.ai //Cloud/Customer Name/Descriptive Job Name/design/Proof Template.ai //Cloud/Customer Name/Descriptive Job Name/design/Proof-1.jpg...
  9. Yay! Finally got a fun one!

Looks good. I would have left out the halftone effect though. It will restrict the types of signage they can get - i.e. nothing that requires weeding.
  10. Signs, screen printing, AND copy shop?

I would never get into small scale paper printing/copying. I worked at a print shop temporarily after doing signs, and I just couldn't handle it. Too hard to make money doing $5-20 jobs all day. Even if you get a self serve copier for your shop and you have enough foot traffic to justify it...
  11. Pdf or Eps

PDF files are also a bit less work because they'll use your artboard size and your bleed, whereas with EPS files you have to use a clipping mask to set the document size.
  12. Needing direction

Eyeballing from a Google image search, I'm gonna say 52x14. Not sure why you aren't able to do that yourself though!
  13. Permanent Matte Vinyl ?

I thought you said you had quite a few clients asking for it. Just laminate a bunch of it at once. Probably more cost effective than hunting down a new supplier for one obscure colour that probably doesn't exist.
  14. Printed and Cut Wall Decals

That's about the best you can do. If the customer knows that it's dirt/stain resistant paint, then I would just recommend using your regular stock vinyl and tell them it'll stick better but it will likely take the paint with it if they want to remove it.
  15. Auto Numbering in X6

You can also do serial numbering in Versaworks fairly easily. You input from a spreadsheet so it can even do non-sequential numbers.
  16. Flexi subscriptions

Other than the built-in RIP, what does Flexi do for a sign shop that Illustrator doesn't? Especially to justify the hefty price. Honestly curious here. I'd really like to hear it from a SAI rep. We had both when I started at this shop and Illustrator just seemed easier to learn, smoother to...
  17. Good avery vinyl!!!!

What is the deal with everyone posting all the parentheses))))))))))))))))))))))))
  18. PMS 725 and 730 vinyl / print

Designers rarely spec vinyl colours. Vinyl only has a fraction of the selection compared to the Pantone library, so you have to let the customer decide whether anything in your vinyl swatch book is close enough, or if they want to pay more to get it printed. Then, printing doesn't guarantee a...
