  1. What would you do?

Paperwork, paperwork, paperwork. We all hate it, but it is a necessary evil if you're interested in covering your own *** today. If the customer has an existing vehicle with similar graphics; it shouldn't matter if someone else printed the graphics or if it was stenciled on with spray paint -...
  2. Laminator Review Please...

The GFPs are awesome, and the new ones have the easy-load swing out rollers. You'll be glad you bought one.
  3. 2013 Dodge Challenger Stripes template?

Restylers Choice should have the vinyl available. I just did some challenger stripes the other day; a real pain in the butt! I used knifeless-tape because the templates are so far off if you're trying to match body lines.
  4. Must I use rewinders with Gerber equipment

We have some funky tables here, but we can let a whole roll run through w/o a winder. (photo attached of one of our setups) GMS, where does the roll get slit into those different pieces that get rolled up? I didn't see that in the video.
  5. Roland Techs in the Cincinnati area?

Chris Wallace 513-317-3351 is the tech we use; he'll only charge you one leg compared to Nazdar's rate. Benji @ trigonimaging.com also knows a lot and can maybe give you a suggestion or two.
  6. Must I use rewinders with Gerber equipment

I've never seen one, I've used the Edge 1, 2 and FX and never seen a need for one. Sometimes we use a whole 50yd roll at a time. A "catch basket" or area for the vinyl to fall into is helpful, but if it's a big job we usually just manually wind it back up onto the core between colors. I think...
  7. Vehicle Measurements Software

I use Pro Vehicle Outlines and it is pretty accurate. Some of the newer curvier vehicles can get a bit off from a flat drawing; so if the vehicle is curvy you're gonna have to get out the tape measure before you actually hit print.
  8. Permanent Matte Vinyl ?

If you order enough vinyl, even 3M will make a custom color for you. If not, educate the customer on what matte vinyls are available (tell your salesman to get off his butt and bring you some current swatch books too!) Or, tell them you can apply matte lam to any color but that comes at an...
  9. Anyone know where to buy these?

    grainger? fastenal?
  10. Real or custom

Rapier font would be a good base to start a new version with.
  11. Small Engine Turn gold

I would explain to the customer the advantage that you are offering by laminating and encapsulating the gold vinyl to extend its lifetime. If you have the diameter of the turn, that would be helpful to us here, as we have no sense of perspective like you do. We use a lot of Leo's gold products...
  12. Yellotools Bodyguard Knife Teflon Pads?

Our secretary ordered some of the teflon pads on February 11th, and they have yet to show up, and have not responded to her emails; that is why I'm posting here...
  13. Yellotools Bodyguard Knife Teflon Pads?

Our installers like using this knife for slitting backing paper. http://shop.signmaking-superstore.de/Cutting/Knife-Cutter-Scissors/BodyGuardKnife::1216.html However, Fellers says that they no longer sell the teflon-glide-pads for it, and Yellotools wont sell direct or deal with us. Does anyone...
  14. Lettering for Flexible Vinyl

You may have to have them screen printed...
  15. Fire Engine Lettering

a photo may help? black lines indicate cuts, red indicates prints, green indicates both print & cut.
  16. One BIG sign

Anchor/mount treated 2x4's to the building face building a "frame" and supplementary mounting points for vertical panels of prints applied to polymetal. Have the polymetal cut if necessary so that all the panels are the same size, and butt them up to each other. Mount them to the 2x4's easily...
  17. Vehicle images

Google images should work unless it is custom vehicle, then we need to take a photo or have them send one. However, I prefer to use ProVehicleOutlines or another template to be sure the scale is correct instead of messing with scaling/un-distorting a photo.
  18. Fire Engine Lettering

This process is called Encapsulating the vinyl. A lot of the time it comes from the fact that these supposedly "high end" gold leaf vinyls are actually "short term/indoor" materials. (check out the backer on your next roll of Leo's and let me know what it says his source vinyl is!) I've always...
  19. Short Rolls!?

We get those all the time, however mostly it is mosquitoes in the vinyl, but sometimes we get a random handprint and once or twice we've gotten spilled coffee on the material.
