  1. What should I do (charging tax)

Do like some furniture salesman did...We will pay your sale tax... Here is how it works: our sales tax is 9%, so for $400, divided by .91 is 439.56. So charge him $440, and no sales tax for him.
  2. Wait a minute.. here's my latest logo attempt (or, Don't laugh at my truck sketch)

I am wondering would it looked better without the white outline around the logo. Great logo, it might look like hand painted without the white as the phone number shown. Now it looks like a "sticker".

What is the point of this story????
  4. Seriously Arlon? Anyone using this stuff please look

This job has black bleed, is there any part that has no bleed and peeling as well? We are using 3M and from time to time has the same problem, and always with dark color with bleed. It could be laminating procedure. For experiment, measure print length after curing (before laminating)...
  5. 14' box truck, cut vinyl pricing?

If he is charging $950 for the 14', I am guessing he got $500 for the panel van. Sigmeup is right, let's not wasting our time without giving more detail of the job. I will just say from $150 to $2,500.
  6. Teardrop banners

What you see all over are generic ones that we sell for $45 retail plus pole & ground spike. They need to be replaced every 2-3 month or so due to fading & frailing. Custom image start at $250 plus design fee. Think about it, it is 30"x12' fabric banner plus special sewing. It is not cheap!

Isign, what are you smoking this time? Plus 1 for Joe. 20 years old, is that a parrellel port dongle? I have one Expert version 5, you can have it if it will help. Been using Corel & signcut, no dongle needed.
  9. Window Perf Failure - Looks to be burning.

Solvex window perf rated 1 year outdoor. It turns to brownish on unprinted surface. Jim, over with white vinyl lasts longer, but if clients want to be able to see out, then perf it is.
  10. polystyrene and diecut vinyl question

For exterior usage, coroplastic will outlast styrene both in UV and breakage. Lots of construction safety signs are secured to chainlink fence, .060 styrene will crack in a short time. We always ask: WHERE is the sign going & HOW is it to be installed, to suggest a suitable substrade.

Mike Paul, I dig those stickers, can we reproduce them?
  13. fire dept wouldn't put the fire out...

Gsign, It is not allow them to pay the premium when on fire, it is to pay the true cost and then some! That is a hefty penalty considering you can pay 100 years of $75 premium, or pay $7,500 cost to put off the fire. This way, every party gained. Same as your heart attack example, you have...
  14. fire dept wouldn't put the fire out...

I don't have health insurance, to get treatment, I just have to pay the cost. Same with this fire, if the fire department is short of funds, this is the time to make some money as all their personnel & equipment are sitting idle. Charge him the full cost will be the common sense thing to do...

Mesh looks OK in a distance. The black one definitely looks washed out as it is taken closely.
  17. need a hand here

Unwind 10' as others suggested. Please note that for 30" vinyl, the max you can cut maybe 29.25", and if your plotter has tracking problem, reduce the width to give the pinch rollers more room for veering.
  18. Contractor Bids

I finally gave up with it's process: go online to obtain the blue print, read and call out the relevant portion and bid. If I miss something, it is on my dime. So now I will bid if they call out all the signage part, that way I have less time spend, and if the general miss something, it's on...

  20. Nazdar For Mimaki

Our 5 year old JV3 has never used OEM inks. From date one was Triangle solvent ink for 3 years, switched to jetbest mild solvent for two years now. How much money saved during 5 years? $30k. Don't think Mimaki, Mutoh make their own inks.
