What is the tech having to fix on the machine? I had a 5500 and don't remember any type of cleaning cycle for it. I remember it had wipers for the heads, but I don't remember it doing a cleaning cycle.
I sold it 5 years ago, so I'm a touch foggy on it's operation.
I've restrung my cable on a 6' wide printer. I thought I had a backlash problem last summer. It turned out my carriage bearing went back.

Stay with OEM if you don't go through a lot of ink and if you are still in your warranty period. Not worth messing with the warranty if you don't use more than a set in a months time.

I would say the Roland vendor probably didn't know how to run the RIP.
VersaWorks is a mere setting selection from muted colors to rich vibrant knock you off your feet color.
The things that can go wrong.
1. Incompatible chemicals to your printers plumbing system
2. Debris
3. Too High Solvent Content
4. Viscosity
5. Poor quality cartridge housing
