  1. Swapping ink out

Give tech support a call (800) 542-2307. Support is always free for printers, and they will either be able to solve the problem over the phone, or let you know if you need a tech.
  2. ROLAND and WINDOWS 8

Thanks Tim. I should also point out that drivers are already available for a number of non-printing Roland devices, including all current cutters and engravers, in the support section of the website. http://rolanddga.com/owners/support/productlist.asp
  3. Roland printerdriver for windows 8.0

The Windows drivers offered for some of the early generation VersaCAMMs only controlled cutting. We do not have a printer driver. However VersaWorks should run in Windows 8. Let me know if you're having a problem installing it, and I will get someone from tech support to work through it.
  4. Any NEW Roland Users?

Installations are taking place as we speak, and there are containers arriving from Japan weekly. The response to the product has been overwhelming, and we are sold out past the end of the year, but we're getting them out there as fast as we can.
  5. ICC Profile for Printing on White Static Cling

There is a profile for white static cling in VW. Do an update and it should appear. The profile was built on Roland brand cling, but should be an improvement over your current vinyl profile regardless of what brand you are using.
  6. VersaWork freezing everyday (few times)

There's a support document here that might have a few useful suggestions: http://support.rolanddga.com/docs/Documents/departments/Technical%20Services/Manuals%20and%20Guides/RVW_TroubleshootingCrash.pdf
  7. SGIA 2012 and CET

I know the comment was off the original topic, but I thought I'd address the 3 week claim for metallic. I'm not sure where that came from, but it simply isn't the case. Metallic output should be laminated for scratch resistance, but when laminated, it will last three years or more, as noted on...
  8. Considering the VS540

I was going to leave this thread to owners, since I'm clearly biased toward recommending you buy one. Since no one has jumped in, feel free to send me a PM and I'll be happy to get you any information you need. There will also be several around the floor in Vegas next week if you're there.
  9. static cling profile in versworks

I don't know the Solvex material well, but one of the little things we have found helps with a lot of static materials is to make sure that full width scan is on. For most media, it is okay to just move the carriage the width of the print, but the peculiar ink absorption and drying...
  10. Roland VS-540 question

There are some media that will image better if each print pass has a little extra time to wet out and set up before the next one is dropped on top of it. For instance, we recommend full width scan with static cling material. With most materials though, you should be okay. If you start having...
  11. Converting printer to printer/cutter

There is no way to do that. Jhilldesigns' suggestion was a good one.
  12. Roland pro4

Charlie - Yes, you would be able to print on clear. The opacity isn't as high as screen print white, but it is a lot better than some of what you've probably heard about in the past. We're into our third generation of white ink, and the primary improvement each time we've upgraded has been...
  13. Roland pro4

RJ - Keep an eye out for the next version of VersaWorks in a month or so. It will have some better tools for matching Pantone colors. Like always, it is a free upgrade and those features will be backward compatible to your machine.
  14. Roland pro4

Scratch resistance is not as high with metallic and white as it is with other colors. We continue to recommend lamination when using them, even with the new generation. With lamination, metallic has close to the same fade resistance as any other ecosolvent, and we have had users wrapping with...
  15. Roland pro4

Jack Knight - There's nothing planned in the near term that I'm aware of. I don't want to get too off topic, but there are a lot of jobs where integrated print/cut can be a real convenience. I realize everyone has their own working requirements, and that's why we offer the RE-640 and the XJ...
  16. Roland pro4

We will be putting some sample books together that show the different modes available. There is a speed hit when running white or metallic. However, the print speed with those colors is roughly double what it is with our older printers.
  17. Roland pro4

Thanks everyone for chiming in. We're very excited about the XR-640. To answer a couple of questions that have come up: - Yes, they will be at SGIA. - The 8 color setup allows a fully mirrored firing order regardless of ink configuration. That eliminates chromatic banding or the "lawnmower...
  18. Techs in portsmouth,columbus,cincinatti area

Every Roland printer dealer has trained techs on staff. Here's a link to find one in your area: http://rolanddga.com/dealers/
  19. Ink some how drain in waste bottle daily?!!

Please give tech support a call. It is toll free, the support is free, and we're here to help. You've done most of the things I would suggest off the top of my head to solve this problem, but I think one of our techs could probably help check a few more things. Give a call at 800-542-2307, or...
  20. VP feed direction Linear scale. Artbot in please

That is a feed encoder disk. There are a couple of different designs for Roland feed encoders, but all VP, VPi, and VS models have this one or something very similar to it. If it gets dirty, it can cause banding. The banding will tend to be cyclical, with repeating intervals equal to the...
