Here is what I know about the latex/eco-solent debate.
Experience: I have Roland in my shop and run a latex at school along with an Epson aqueous(that thing rocks), Roland eco-sol, and an Indigo.
I do all my own maintenance on my Roland. Why? Because I can, and everybody and their brother...
If its a metal sign powder coating should give you the look you want. Embossing the metal would be mega-dollar though. Or you could CNC a vac form, use the form to make the sign(s) then shoot it with base/clear. As long as they were never handled no one would know the difference.
Maybe find the local tech college with an electronics program and ask if they can help. Would give students a leg up on the real world applications of all that fancy "lernin".
You could them take a chunk of the money you saved and make a donation to the program.
In lieu of that try to find...
At school we have a Roland UV. Inks were expired by almost a year. It would print for a bit then stop laying down color. Not much success recovering the heads. Tech came in an replaced a couple heads after flushing the system.
He said expired inks start to self destruct after a while...
I don't own one, but I've learned a couple things since I thought about getting one.
Prius = Battery Pack. If the battery pack develops a fault the car will not run. All hybrids are like this. It's a huge bill to get a new battery pack done at the dealer. Somewhere north of 3 grand...
Interesting thread.
What I learned from it:
I won't be buying anything HP if I have to spend 2 grand plus a year just to keep it running. Or to have piece of mind on the off chance something goes awry.
Cost of business? Sounds more like a poorly designed/built piece of equipment.
For that...
If it's bitter cold I bring my torpedo heater and set it up to blow on the glass. Not too close though. You want just a bit of heat and not shock the glass. The first time we did this was on a jewelry store in Upper Michigan. January, in the middle of a blizzard, installing frosted glass...
My 2 cents. If you live in an area where folks aren't willing to pay for a wrap no marketing/design in the world will change their mind. Another thing is population/business density. Far more "willing" buyers when you have millions of people and thousands of businesses in close proximity to...
Only time our SP540V mutilated vinyl was from a bad batch of blades. They would cut OK for a few inches or feet then the tips would fall off.(Roland blades) I emailed Roland and they sent me replacements. Haven't had it happen since.
Not sure if that will help, but it's all I got.
