    75-100 dpi should be fine at full size (so photo would need to be 6450 x 7200 minimum this is a baseline standard. there are a few 'upscale' type softwares/plugins that would basically achieve a nice result with a smaller photo it also depends on the content of the photo.

    there very well may be a 'freestyle selection' where you draw a shape and anything it touches gets selected

    if the original cabinet was made for a formed face, more likely than not you will get hotspots from a flat face
