Hi, I don't think it's your Onyx doing that, I had the same problem my jv3 not long ago. You have to clean your encoder strip and the sensor that rides along the encoder strip. You have to be careful removing it and re installing it.

The large letters look like aluminum and the small letters look like a type of foam.

I use to use those qtips from mimaki to clean my ears out, I knew they be good for something other then what there ment for.
