  1. Can't believe it..............................

Busted. I was there and handed out a fistful of your cards. Didn't think you'd mind, Gino. lol.
  2. Would any judge convict me?

We don't seem to have this "problem". We will sell materials (although it's sometimes hard to see this as anything but an interuption of our work) at an appropriate markup. Regarding getting your blood pressure all worked up, h*ll no! Not worth it. Simply tell such a client as yours that when...
  3. Signmaker/Working manager wanted in Longview, WA. - good pay for the right person

Job is located in Longview, WA. We are a 30 year old, 5 person commercial sign shop. We are seeking an individual to fill the position of working manager. The position is full time, permanent work M-F 9:00am to 5:00pm. The ideal person would have experience in operating signmaking equipment...
  4. Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

Yep, family is great this time of year. Love 'em all. Going on a hike up near Mt. St. Helens the day after. (cold weather hiking)
  5. Printing too short

When we had similar problems with our Roland, a simple feed calibration cured the problem. Have you done this? For the other dimensional distortion, it would be a simple scan calibration. Don't know your printer, but there must be similar adjustments I would think.
  6. Employee mistakes

Please note: You cannot charge an employee for damage or missing tools, or whatever. That's the law. (unless the tools were stolen by him, that's a different story) If this person is not otherwise, a stellar performer, I'd have a long talk with him. At our shop, we have employee reviews...
  7. Hello from Oregon

Welcome aboard. I used to operate a shop at 36th and Powell, if you know the South East side of Portland.
  8. RIP is changing the file dimensions when processing? Why? .TIF versus .EPS

Thanks, But that's not what is happening. EPS files are not changing in dimension. It's the .TIF files that are changing. Any ideas?
  9. RIP is changing the file dimensions when processing? Why? .TIF versus .EPS

I'm going goofy here, please help if you can. The same file sent to VersaWorks as a .tif comes out a different size (smaller) than when sent as an .eps. What is happening here? Any help greatly appreciated. The rate of "shrinkage" is 96% if that helps.
  10. RIP is changing the file dimensions when processing? Why? .TIF vresus .EPS

  11. UPS put me in collections!!

Since we have an account, they send us a bill every two weeks. This month, I'm told, we were charged thirty six cents for inaccurate sizing. Last month I'm told it was more like sixty or seventy cents. Really....I mean who's measuring all of these packages? Maybe lasers?
  12. UPS put me in collections!!

We ship nearly everyday. Yes, we have an account. We were just notified that we owe a tiny bit of money. They said their "audits" have shown some of our packages are being under declared as to size. This is crazy, because we have the boxes all made the same size by U-line. Purchase a hundred at...
  13. Does this happen at your shop often?

It happens to all shops. The ones with any" character" send them packing. We will definitely not steal other shops work, or use unlicensed art from the web. People do get mad. We have long ago decided that turning away some work (from problem clients) is in our best interest. There are about...
  14. Rant - my turn

So true. Often we will ask several questions for clarity on a job. The client reads the first one and answers it and hits "send". So dumb and unprofessional. What I've taken to doing, to try and offset this, is stating that there are several things I need clarity on, and then actually numbering...
  15. Rant - my turn

    Yep.
  16. Contour cutting only the contour not the design within

Can you not send two files? One file is for print, and then only selected portions of the file sent for cut? Of course some sort of registration marks will have to be set, but you're doing that anyway, no?
  17. Why do I like Fellers?

    Yes you did.
