  1. Okay, who exactly is suppose to pay attention to this sign

Especially on a golf course. God, I hate that!
  2. How much compensation for a employee with zero experience/competency?

About the only way to do that is to make an employee into an independent contractor. (if he or she is willing) But I think you'll run afoul of labor law doing that, because such a person has to have his own tools, come and go at his own discretion, not work under your direction, set his own...
  3. Anyone know where i can finance for a roland or mutoh printer?

If you haven't already done so, and you do intend to get into a business that requires expensive equipment, establish a relationship with a bank or credit union. If you are granted a loan, or accepted by a leasing company for equipment, do your absolute level best to meet the payment schedule...
  4. simple shape problem

Step 1: In your "draw" program, (vector based) create your oval. Step 2: Select the oval and in your tool box, slice and dice with whatever tool allows a cut all the way through the object. That will leave three shapes which are "closed" shapes, and as such, can be filled. Step 3: Color fill...
  5. simple shape problem

Not sure what it is you're trying to accomplish. But let's start with this...(see attached file) Is this sort of the idea?
  6. How much compensation for a employee with zero experience/competency?

Guess I'll jump in. We just hired a person (four months now) full time at starting wage of $13.00 (we have no part timers, everyone here is full time). She had no skills in signmaking, but a tremendous attitude, such that I hadn't seen in quite awhile in a job candidate. We are currently...
  7. Who is happy with their printer dealer?

We are not in upstate New York, but are happy with Denco Sales here in the Northwest. Our machine is under warranty and I had an issue with the feed and spoke with Roland techs on the phone twice and they then wrote a case number for it and had a guy come out. He was here for a couple of hours...
  8. Font ID help please - the script lettering only

Any help appreciated. Seems like this one was on the forum recently but I can't find it. Sort of a commercial script, but different.
  9. Making signs for state and federal agencies - reflective materials?

Thank you all. Good words about the black being opaque black, and not the reflective black.
  10. Making signs for state and federal agencies - reflective materials?

We have had one batch of signs rejected already. Now they furnish us with a Sheeting Identification Guide 2014, showing the many makers of reflective sheeting and the grades. It's very confusing. Has anyone experience with making road signs that comply? Secondly, can the lettering be cut vinyl...
  11. profit margins?

Isn't this thread about "margins"? Put another way, net earnings (profit) against revenue, usually expressed as a percentage. ie: 20% profit Example: Job cost to client $2000, shop costs including labor and materials $1500, gross profit 25%. (net profit is even less - subtract your fixed...
  12. Joining together and fill.

Not totally sure how Flexi works, but in my program, if the shapes overlap, however slightly, and you select both shapes and select contour, they will join (weld) and become one shape. I'm sure most other programs are similar, although wording for "contour" may be weld, join, or something similar.
  13. Price Increase Continuation........................

Yep, wage creep. Your $15.00 people are going to want more than the just-hired newbie. All the way up the line, everyone gets a raise. ie: "the rising tide floats all boats", etc.
  14. Price Increase Continuation........................

Well put Gino. I find in talking to other business owners, (not always sign shops) that they don't have a good handle on their costs. Note to all forum readers, you should have a business model in play that tells you these things. That model should be such that when you're not fully busy, say...
  15. where to buy this little sign holder/bracket

Thanks a ton! I guess it helps to know what they're called. Never thought of "grippers". Used search words like sign holder, sign bracket, projecting brackets, etc. Again, thanks.
  16. where to buy this little sign holder/bracket

Trying with no luck to locate a pewter/brushed aluminum sign holder exactly like this one. Need to match bank interior signs. It will allow a sign to "project" out from the wall. It's about 1-5/8" long, bullet shaped and will accommodate up to 1/4" thick materials. Any help appreciated...
  17. troublesome customer - how would you handle it?

Unless six hundred bucks a month is very important to you, I'd lose no time in saying goodbye. (on a business level) If you still want to be friends with this guy (because he's in the same building and you've got to see him all the time) OK. But business does not work the way you say it's been...
  18. Husband broke his back

Gosh, I'm so sorry. Hoping for some good news and a recovery possibly.
  19. Re-Inventing

You have a good attitude about the feedback. Good for you. (kind of rare on this forum).
